Haru Hamada Toimoto
March 9, 1927 - June 17, 2025
After a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Haru Toimoto, passed away on June 17, 2025. She was born in Ogden, Utah on March 9, 1927 one of seven children of Kanekichi and Kasumi Masuda Hamada.
Haru grew up in Ogden, surrounded by family and a bustling Japanese community. Shortly after World War II ended she met a charismatic and handsome young man just released from the US Army, his name, Arthur Toimoto. They were married on January 21, 1949 and had 67 wonderful years together until his death in 2016.
Haru worked for Hill Air Force base for over 30 years. After retirement she and Art would split their time between Las Vegas and Bountiful. They both enjoyed golfing, traveling and spending time with family. For the last two years, Haru has resided at Creekside Senior Living enjoying visits with her lady friends, playing bingo, crafts, and visiting with her family.
Preceded in death by her parents, siblings Masuru (Kiyo), Shigeru (Aiko), Minoru (Martha), Mitsuko (Roy) Enomoto, Yorito and Dick (Sheral). She is survived by her daughters Susan (Brian) Christiansen and Teri (Don D’Autremont) Rio; grandchildren, Kristy (Brad) Cronkrite, Cody (Lydia) Christiansen, and Arthur Rio; and great-grandchildren, Kade (Lindsey) Christiansen, Candin and Sage Rio; and Brian and Leia Cronkrite. Sister-in-law Sheral Hamada and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Creekside Senior Living and the staff from Ovation Hospice, Quality Hospice, and A Plus Hospice who helped care for Haru at Creekside.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025 from 10:00-11:30 am with funeral services immediately afterwards at the Buddhist Church of Ogden, 155 North Street, Ogden, Utah. Interment in the Ogden City Cemetery.

Dear Terri, Susan, Arthur and all the family. We loved your sweet Haru and are missing her dearly. She was the best neighbor to Donna. She was always looking out for her and always had a smile even when she was not feeling well. We are so happy for her to be reunited with her husband and family but the rest of us here are missing her terribly. Best to you all. Donna and RaeAnn
