Helen Imada Mitsunaga

April 6, 1932 - March 29, 2024

Millcreek, UT – Helen quietly slipped away from this life, while surrounded by her loving family, on March 29th.  Helen was 91 years old and just days away from her 92nd birthday.  Her passing will leave a hole in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.  She will be dearly missed by all of us.

Helen was born to Wasaburo (Bob) and Shizuko Imada, in Ogden, Utah on April 6, 1932.   She attended and graduated from West High School.  She met and fell in love with Harry Kiyoshi Mitsunaga and they were married on December 6, 1952.  Together with Harry’s brother, Hiroshi, and his wife Ruth, they built and operated a thriving farm and produce market.  The market was named Mits Farm Market.   It was a popular and well-known Murray landmark until the brothers retired after 36 years.

Helen was active with several organizations including the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple, Buddhist Women’s Association, and Japanese American Citizens League.

Anyone who met Helen was instantly drawn to her sense of humor and kind personality.  People she met would often become lifelong friends.  Helen always felt fortunate to have had so many loving and supportive friendships in her life.  Her home was always a warm gathering place to meet with family and friends.  It was often the center point of many family parties and get-togethers.  Helen loved to travel.  One of her favorite destinations was Wendover.   She was often a regular on Donna’s Tours bus trips.  She was almost always accompanied by her sister Arlene, and daughters Diane and Kathy.  She would also travel there with her many friends and relatives.

Helen was a special grandmother to her grandchildren, and a loved auntie to her nieces and nephews.  She took pride and interest in their lives and accomplishments.  She always wanted to know how they were doing and was interested in their future endeavors.  She never forgot anyone on holidays and birthdays.

Helen is survived by her son Lynn, daughters Kathy and Tami (Robert), sister Arlene, son-in-law Kim, grandchildren Brenda, Valerie, Eric and Alex, and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, brother Arthur, daughter Diane, daughter-in-law Kelly and son-in-law Ron.

A private family service will be held in her memory.

In Loving Memory
