Helen LaPreal Katsos
October 14, 1934 - December 27, 2020
Heaven gained an angel on Dec 27, 2020. Helen Sperry Katsos passed from complications of COVID19 and a broken heart. Her sweetheart of 61 1⁄2 years passed just a few weeks before her and she just could not wait to be “Together Again”.
Helen was born on October 14, 1934 in Delta, Utah to Leo Rex Sperry and LaPreal Bradfield Sperry. Her family lived in Caliente and Modena, Nevada when she was a small girl. She had so many fond memories of her time there. Her family moved to Buena Vista Utah (SLC) were she met the love of her life; Andy Katsos while in the 4th grade at Boone Elementary School. Helen graduated from Cyprus High School in 1952.
Helen and Andy married on June 20, 1959 and created a beautiful family together. Helen loved freely and without judgment. Everyone was welcome to her home for a cup of coffee or just to talk. She always had a listening ear AND you never left her home hungry. Helen was the kind of person that everyone loved, and her passing has left a hole in so many hearts.
Helen loved her kids and grandkids with her complete heart and soul. She was devoted to her family and rarely missed a horse show, dance competition, football, lacrosse, or softball game. If more mothers loved the way she did, this world would be a better place. Helen enjoyed her work as a dental hygienist for years until she retired so she could spend more time with her grandkids. They had a very special bond because they spent so much time together. The grandkids adoringly called her Granny Helen.
Christmas was her favorite time of year, so she was excited to have the family together this year knowing it would be our last.
Helen is survived by her children, JoLisa (Richard) Catmull, Rex (Trina) Katsos, Gilbert Arenaz, and JoAnna Katsos; grandchildren, Karli (Shane) Jensen, Brennen (Nicole) Katsos, Wyatt (Rylee)Katsos, Cole and Kennedie Arenaz; great grandchildren, Axel, Andi, Holland, Owen, and soon to be baby boy Anthony due in March; and we cannot forget her favorite “child” her dog Max, who never left her side.
She is preceded in death by her husband Andy, daughter Jennifer, parents, brothers Leo and Garn Sperry and sisters Mena Westerman and Elaine Robinette.
We would like to thank Rocky Mountain Home Health Care and Rocky Mountain Hospice for the love and kindness, they showed mom and our family, they will be forever in our
hearts.
The family asks in lieu of flowers that you spend some time with those that you love, watch a Hallmark movie and have a big chocolate shake together because these were her favorite things.
A memorial and celebration of Helen's life will be held after a COVID19 vaccine is available to everyone. We will celebrate Andy and Helen style, with lots of food, stories and laughs. Stay tuned for date.
A celebration for Andy and Helen will be on Saturday, June 26, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.
