Howard Niles Peck

Loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle, Howard Niles Peck, passed early on September 30th, in West Jordan, Utah.

Howard was born in American Fork, UT to Moroni Peck and Laura Ann Rowley on October 5th, 1915.  He spent most of his younger years in Idaho farming and attending school.

He served 1944-46 in World War II.  He then served an LDS mission to Bakersfield, CA.  Later, he served a Church History Mission in Salt Lake City, UT and as a stake missionary for many years.

Howard attended Albion Normal School, and then began his career teaching.  He taught for 29 years, most at Pioneer Elementary School in Minidoka County School District.

He was kind, loving, social and hard-working.  Howard instilled these qualities in his posterity.  He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by all.  Sorry we didn’t get to spend your 94th birthday with you here, but know others will rejoice with you.

Howard is survived by his son Karl Peck; daughters Sandra Peck, Peggy Knopp, Celia Parks, Phyllis Miller, Dorothea Hodson; 20 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister Blanche Dayley; and 2 brothers Sherman and Kenneth Peck.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers Lee and Roy Peck; 3 sisters Edith Butler, Elva Payne and June Peck Corless.

A graveside service will be held at noon on Monday, October 5th at Hillcrest Cemetery, 750 East 1200 North, Shelley, ID.

We’ll miss you!

In Loving Memory

Dear Friends A long time has passes since we have seen each other. I am so sorry about your dad. I understand your feelings as we just lost Mom in June. Remember that you have each other and you can draw on each other for strength. Stay close and know that I am thinking of you. Linda

So sorry to hear of the passing of your father. I remember many good times in your home and thoroughly enjoyed your family. Peggy, sorry we have lost track of each other over the years. I still consider you a great friend.

I was very sorry to hear about your dad. I was lucky to know him and have him as a teacher at Pioneer School for 5th and 6th grade. He was such a wonderful gentleman. He was the neatest guy. One time, in 6th grade, I went up to his desk to ask him a question and I said "Mom, I have a question for you." He thought it was funny that I called him Mom. I guess it was just that I felt so comfortable around him. He made every student feel just like family. He was a huge part of making Pioneer School the best grade school. I loved going there and would never change a thing. Good bye Mr Peck, you were a wonderful influence on countless children of Minidoka County.

I was sorry to read about your father's passing. It looks like, however, he had a very long life. I can't believe he was almost 94! What I remember most about your father was his great missionary work. He was always trying his best to bear his testimony and bring others into the church. Sandra, e-mail me!

We are sorry to hear of Brother Peck's passing. He was our very devoted Home Teacher for several years. We always looked forward to his coming. We were very sorry that he left Burley so suddenly, and we couldn't get in touch with him to tell him how much we missed him in our home and our ward. We wish that he would have had a service in our ward. He had many friends in the church and the community. He was a good man. Forrest and Kathryn Hall

I was sad to hear of the passing of Howard. I think of all the support our family has received from the Peck cousins and thought I should write. I am one of Aunt Lenore's granddaughters and Lydia's daughter. I enjoyed visiting with you all when you came to Grandma's house or our family events.
