Howard Russell Ness
February 27, 1917 - February 29, 2008
Our beloved family patriarch peacefully passed away on February 29, 2008 with his wife, children and grandchildren by his side.
Born February 27, 1917 in Chouteau, Montana to Henry Rudolph Ness and Bertha Johnette Thorud, he outlived his younger brothers Jim and Sam whom he dearly loved.
Howard lived each day with a zest for life! His blue eyes twinkled for 91 years and brought joy to everyone he met. As a businessman, he pioneered convention service contracting in Las Vegas beginning in the early 1960’s. Throughout his career in his convention/tradeshow industry, he respected each worker and served his clients with distinction and class… Howard loved people and people loved him back… He was… “The Silver Fox”.
Howard loved to golf, fish, collect stamps, coins and turtles, vacation with his family and make pickled eggs… it’s a Norwegian thing, which, incidentally, he proudly claimed that this heritage sustained his longevity.
Our dad is survived by his wife, Letty Jo Howard, of sixty years and his three children Marcia Ness Wright, Debra Ness Huckstep and James Howard Ness; along with seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three great-grandbabies on the way! Now… he is reunited with his youngest son, Thomas Ira Ness, who died at birth.
We miss the heart and soul of our family leader; yet, his life we celebrate… for we are blessed that we all received his most personal and special guidance throughout our lives. His wishes and words inspire our family to leave a legacy… His legacy we honor.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 5th at 10:00am at the Toll Canyon Ward 2555 W. Kilby Road, Park City. Viewing one hour prior to services. Interment to follow at Park City Cemetery.
In Loving Memory
I am very Sorry for your loss. I spent 3 days in the Hospital Bed next to Howard a few days ago. I was amazed at his Spirit and charisma in the final hours. Also amazed with the kindness of his daughter Debbie, To me and her father. Best of luck! John Reiser
