Hugh Grant Johnson

December 31, 1963 - June 8, 2023

Hugh was born on December 31, 1963 in Provo Utah. Hugh grew up in Idaho, Manila and Holladay, Utah. He spent most of his younger years in Holladay, Ut. He passed away on June 8, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Hugh is survived by parents; Derrell and Marjorie Johnson, brothers Howard (Jana) and Hal Ryan (Amy). Nieces and Nephews, Amy (Sterling), Breanna (Kyle), Seth, Grant (Brynlee), Madilyn, Zane, Oliver, Ebby and Ava.

Hugh attended Oakwood Elementary, Bonneville Jr High School and Cottonwood High School, graduating in 1981.

Hugh attended the University of Utah and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Leisure Management in 1987. Hugh received an additional Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia College.

Hugh lived in Sugarhouse after high school. He loved living there and his neighbors.

He worked his way through college working in the food service industry at Tres Hombres, Charlie Chows and La Caille Restaurants, subsequently he worked at Utah Urban Homes and Real Estate, Salt Lake County and the State of Utah.

Hugh Married Fedora Rose Grey in 2002 and later divorced.

Hugh had a passion for gardening, home repair and improvement, golfing, fishing, quilting, cooking and shooting sports. Hugh was the author of several screenplays and a cookbook, Never Do Dishes Again. It is an excellent book with an innovative approach to cooking.

Hugh was an avid golfer and a “Richard” in the Swingin’ Richards golf league. Hugh’s huge personality, like his golf swing, was bigger than life. Appropriately, he was affectionately known by his friends as Hugh-mungus or just Mungus. Additionally, Hugh never missed the annual Men’s G3 Summit in Mesquite. The G3 Summit fit Hugh perfectly; Guns, Gambling and Golf. Finally, Hugh was a fixture at Poker Camp & an annual event where cards were played, horseshoes were thrown, and fishing stories were expanded upon. Along with others, Hugh went to great lengths to provide a formal dining experience. He was a fun person to be around, treated everyone as a friend and the group events will be lesser without him.

Hugh was a great friend to many. If you needed help he was always the first to show up. You could alway count on him.

In Loving Memory

My memories of my awesome cousin was when we spend summers at our grandpa and grandma Johnson's farm in Tropic and Henriville Utah. I will never forget how much fun we had as kids, he accepted me for who I am, never judged or said a bad word about anyone! He was funny, fun and very caring and loving! We kept in touch here and there. You never know when anyone of us are going to leave this earth, so never not reach out to one another. Hugh you are going to be greately missed but I know I will see you again. Love you always.❤️❤️
