Ian Lauchlin McGillis
November 11, 1977 - August 25, 2026
Our Ian Lauchlin McGillis passed away on August 25, 2026 due to health complications. He will be missed by the many lives he touched over his 48 years. His life passions include his work in concrete and construction, (Judd Construction) listening to music, playing his guitar and watching football as a proud Steelers fan. Ian loved sushi, his friends, drinking a beer, and utilizing the Irish goodbye. Over the years, Ian has shown his kindness in many ways.
He has stopped traffic to allow a mother duck and her ducklings to safely cross the road. He assisted stranded travelers experiencing car trouble. Most of all, he was an awesome and loving uncle to his nieces and nephews. Ian is survived by his mother Suzanne, and his younger siblings Paul, Sarra, Meganne, Blake and Sean. He also leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles and cousins who meant so much to him, sharing so many happy memories over the years. Ian was preceded in death by his father Mitchell; his grandparents; and his loyal dog, Logan.
We will always remember you, Ian, riding away in your truck with little Logan by your side, your arm resting out the window, and the radio playing up high.
We love you. We miss you. And you will always be in our hearts.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East. Guests are encouraged to use the parking and entrance on the north side of the building.

I love you, Ian. You were a father figure to me growing up, not just a brother. Thank you for all you did for me, taught me, helped me with, shared with me and fixed for me. You always made sure my car was running good, and I will never forget all the memories we made. You deserved so much more in life and I will forever think of you and be thankful I had you in my life. I love you, brother and will see you again someday. I am glad my kids had a chance to have you as their Uncle Ian. Love, your little sister, Sarra

Ian loosing you is a tremendous loss for your family, friends, coworkers, subcontractors, and everyone fortunate enough to know you. Ian are a beloved superintendent, a hard worker, and the kind of man who led by example. you were famously the first one to arrive at a job site and the last one to leave. you took pride in your work, cared deeply about doing things right, and expected the same dedication from everyone around you. If you worked for Ian, you knew he had expectations. He could be hard on a subcontractor when the job wasn’t being done the way it should be—and he certainly wasn’t afraid to let you know about it. But there was always a reason behind it. Ian cared about the quality of the work, cared about the people counting on him, and cared about seeing the job finished right. In the end, somehow, those expectations always seemed to get met. But what people will remember most about Ian wasn't just how hard he worked—it was who he was. Ian had an incredible sense of humor. He could make people laugh, even on the longest and toughest days. He had a way of bringing personality to the job site and making the people around him feel like they were part of something bigger. He could give you a hard time one minute and have you laughing with him the next. For all the demands he placed on others, Ian gave just as much of himself. He showed up. He worked hard. He took responsibility. He looked out for the job and for the people around him. And most importantly, people loved Ian. He left an impression on everyone he met. Whether you worked alongside him for years, crossed paths with him on a job site, or simply had the privilege of calling him a friend, Ian was someone you didn't forget. The construction world has lost a great superintendent, but the people who knew Ian have lost much more than a coworker. They have lost a friend, a mentor, a familiar face, a great source of laughter, and someone who made the hard days a little easier. Ian will be deeply missed, but his stories, his humor, his hard work, and the memories he gave so many people will live on. Rest easy, Ian. The job site won't be quite the same without you.

I am very bummed out about this loss of such a genuine, one of a kind guy. Ian was always honest, kind, and authentic, there was no façade with him. What you saw is what you got with Ian, he was larger than life, and one of the funniest guys I’ve ever met. He’s literally had me in tears at times from how funny he was. He was not only a mentor to me, but also a good friend who I will miss dearly and I thought a lot of him. It was nice to drink cold ones with you, work with you, have some good laughs and good conversation. I will miss you, my friend.

I had the honor of becoming you step mom when you were 16. You were sweet and kind. I have wonderful memories of when you lived with your dad and I like the bbq's, many Christmases playing games with all you kids and just chilling. One of the best is when you would tell me to go back to bed when I was "sleep bitching". I miss you and always loved you ❤️ Krisa
