Ina Gayle Phibbs Connole Knight

May 1, 1941 - August 5, 2022

Gayle Knight passed away peacefully at her home in Mesquite, Nevada on August 5, 2022. She was surrounded by many family members who loved her dearly. Ina Gayle was born on May 1, 1941 to Ray Carwin Phibbs and Clara Dee Phibbs. She grew up in a very loving home in Salt Lake with her sister, Clara Dee and her brother Ray Gary Phibbs. Gayle was the youngest of the three.
Gayle married Roger John Connole in 1959. They made their home in Salt Lake City. Together they raised 4 children and had many wonderful times on family vacations and camping trips. The family spent their summers living and working at Defa’s Dude Ranch from 1975 to 1979. Some of Gayle’s best memories were of this time living at the ranch. After a 20-year marriage, they divorced. Gayle later met and married Gayle Knight. Yes, they had the same name with the same spelling. Gayle and Gayle spent many years going to car shows with their 1965 Corvette and enjoyed their beautiful yard with a lot of gardening on the weekends. Their love of animals saw no boundaries, even adopting and caring for the homeless cats in the neighborhood. Gayle passed away in 2018 after a battle with declining health.

Gayle continued to enjoy her home where she raised her children. She was particularly happy with her garden that was maintained by The Green Urban Lunchbox who donated the food she grew to local shelters. Some of her most treasured times were her annual Christmas parties, camping with her children, tropical vacations to Hawaii and Turks and Caicos, and cruises to amazing destinations. Gayle had many friends who thought the world of her. She was truly a joy and a blessing to everyone she met. She was a longtime member of the Alanon Family Groups where she held various service positions. Gayle’s last two years were spent in her lovely home in Mesquite, Nevada. Her children lived locally and were always there for her.

Gayle is preceded in death by her parents, Ray Carwin Phibbs and Clara Dee Phibbs, her brother Ray Gary Phibbs, and her husband Gayle Carlisle Knight.

Gayle is survived by her four children Scott Connole (Mary), Marie Corlin (Greg), Christopher Connole, Michael Connole, and her sister Clara Dee Ek. She had 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Our family would like to thank Omnia Care Home Health and Hospice for their loving care.

Friends and family are invited to join us at Starks Funeral Parlor on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm to share memories and a toast to our beautiful mother’s wonderful life. Guests are encouraged to park on the north parking lot.

Chris, I'm not sure if you remember me, but I was saddened to see of your mother's passing. I didn't know she worked at Defa's Dude Ranch.  That was probably before your time. I don't know if you knew I taught school and coached at Tabiona HS, which is near the Dude Ranch.  I sure miss Bicycle World, you, and Spero. I'm part of a saturday morning coffee group, which meets at a coffee shop, directly across from the old Bicycle World Building.  My guess is that you are a pharmacist now.  I wish you the best

My sweet Gayle. She was my very first customer when I attended beauty school. She continued to be my "customer" for the past 22 years. We became wonderful friends and I loved her with all my heart. I miss our gossip sessions, her cat stories and her infectious smile. Even though I only met Mike, Dee and Marie, I feel like I know the entire family because of the stories I've heard throughout the years. Your mom was one of a kind. The best. Am sending my love your way and may her memory be eternal.
