Ira Richard Bates

November 11, 1952 - February 10, 2009

Ira Richard Bates, 56, died unexpectedly in his home in Kearns, Utah on February 10, 2009.

Dad always enjoyed the simple things in life and always welcomed everyone into his heart and his home.  He always tried to help anyone who needed it.

Dad served in the army from 1971 to 1973 and always honored his time in the military.  Some of the simplest things in life brought him joy–from a simple sit down with his kids and grandchildren to fishing and camping.  He also loved working on cars and model cars.  He always had time for his family and friends.

Dad will be missed by many and the time we had to spend with him was drawn short but he will forever be remembered as a dad, brother, grandpoo, uncle and friend by many.

Ira is survived by his four children Wendy, Richard (Alesia), Carrie, Deena; grandchildren Drayven, Gavin, Prestina “nina-cabena”; niece Lyniz, his bus buddy; sister Linda Bates; brothers Harvey (Anita), Alfred (Joy), Harold (Diane) and Sheldon (Kim); his love Irene; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ira is preceded in death by his grandparents LeGrand Mosby and Rosetta (Williams) Mosby, his mother Darlene (Mosby) Bates and niece Kayla Rose Bates.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 17th at 1:00 PM at Utah Veteran’s Memorial Park Chapel, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Riverton, where friends may pay their respects to Ira for one hour prior to the service.  Interment with military honor guard to follow at Utah Veteran’s Memorial Park.  Arrangements entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor.

“Dad, you will be forever missed but never forgotten and will always be in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.  Please watch over us as our angel and guide us in the right direction in our lives.  We love you Dad and we will never forget you.”

In Loving Memory

We received a copy of your obituary from Jodie Denhalter, who is in SLC. We are distant cousins who share great grandparents of Hyrum Bates. My grandfather was Ira Sheldon Bates, who Jodie believed Ira Richard was named after. We are sorry to hear of your loss and pray you will feel peace in his passing as you focus on the wonderful memories you made together with him. We would love to connect with you to share our common genealogy information and strengthen the Bates descendants. Please email me if you are interested. May you feel the love and prayers of your family and friends during this difficult time. Warmly, Tracey Bates Long
