Jack Walton

September 21, 1941 - June 19, 2023

Our cherished Dad, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend Jack (Bud) Walton passed away in Davis County Utah on June 19th, 2023. Jack was born in South Salt Lake to Hyrum Melvin Walton and Cornelia Versluis on September 21st, 1941. He was 1 of 3 boys and 6 sisters.

Jack attended Granite High School but left early to join the U.S. Army by forging his father’s signature at the age of 16. Jack served in Germany during the construction of the Berlin Wall. He was honorably discharged in 1965 and was always very proud of his military service.

Jack is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marla. His sons John (Cindy), Scott (Stacy), his daughter Kimberly (Jake) and stepdaughter Pam; 14 grandchildren Tabitha, Braxton, Jordan, Paige (Jordan), Houston (Caroline), Kennedy (Jax), Alex, Brittney (Carlos), Trisha, Trevor, Devin (Kyle) ,Nelle (Brady), Danika and William,  13 great-grandchildren, Sisters Marie Williams, Joan Zahn, Patricia Schneider, brother James Moore, and many nieces and nephews. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert and Melvin. Sisters Jeri, Carol, and Thelma and grandson Hingano “Junior” Latu.

Jack had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He loved music, Fishlake, Cabo San Lucas Mexico, The Los Angeles Rams, and the New York Yankees. In 2001 he made a trip to New York and Ground Zero with his family and that was always very special to him.

Through the power of the internet, Jack was able to connect with the family of his oldest brother Bob. They had moved to Canada shortly after Bob’s death. He loved our Northern Waltons so much. Through the power of DNA testing, Jack was able to connect with a brother he did not know he had, James Moore was very special to him. Jack was so grateful for these connections and the time he was able to spend getting to know these wonderful pieces of his family.

Our Dad always said, “Sleep when you’re dead!”

I hope you sleep well, Daddy. Please watch over us, until we meet again.

We want to thank the staff at Holy Cross Davis Hospital, Bristol Hospice (Nicole and Cece), Evolution Hospice and most of the Whisper Cove Staff.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be on August 5th, 2023, from 6-8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S 900 E Millcreek Utah. Guests are encouraged to use parking and entrance located on the north side of the building.
