James D. Nation
December 13, 1938 - September 12, 2012
Always & Forever
Son, husband, father, stepfather and friend
Made his home in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Many great life long friends
Was a true outdoorsman. We have many fond memories of dad going deer hunting, fishing, camping, and he loved horses.
He had an unforgettable sense of humor, even to his last days. He never heard a dirty joke he didn't love.
Some of his greatest passions in life included tennis, golf, music, cowboy hats, and his work. He was, like his father before him, a truly gifted carpenter. Many examples of his work can be found throughout Utah and surrounding States.
Dad attended school at Wasatch Academy back in the day, graduating from Olympus High School, from where he went on to serve in the United States Army. During his time there, he became 11th in the national rankings on the professional tennis circuit. One of his teachers was Pancho Gonzales … a fact he loved to share at every party.
The last years of his life have been his happiest, after reuniting with his High School Sweetheart and enjoying many adventures travelling in the RV to golf courses and resorts far and wide.
Jay will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife Estelle Nation; mother MaryAnne Lingwall; children Rick Nation (Tammie), Maryanne Nation (Jerry), Jim Nation, David Hall (stepson), Kathy Nation, Ally Nation (Mo), Ryan Nation, Jeff Aschilman (stepson), Teresa Anne Aschliman (stepdaughter); 15 grandchildren, 5 that are married; 20 great grandchildren
He is preceded in death by his daughter Erin Nation.
The family would also like to thank both the Veterans Administration Hospital and Hospice for their compassion and care through these difficult times.
A graveside service will be held on September 17th at 10:00am at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive.
In Loving Memory
Mary Ann, Estelle, Teresa, Mary anne. I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you as I know most of you weren't prepared for his death. I loved visiting with him and all of you these past months. As a hospice nurse it is never easy to say goodbye to a patient. J was more than that to me as were the rest of you. I mourn his passing and hope that you can find some comfort in knowing he is free again.
