James Farrell Tate
September 17, 1939 - August 5, 2022
James Farrell Tate, left his loving family and friends to “return home” on August 5, 2022 due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. Jim was born on September 17, 1939 in Tooele, (Too-will-a), Utah where he served as the Student Body President of Tooele High School in 1958. He later moved to Salt Lake City where he attended the University of Utah and met his wife Noella Dawn (Dawny) whom he fell in love with at first sight. Jim was married to the “love of his life” for 61 years.
His career was spent in the food industry where he was the regional sales manager for Thomas J. Lipton Tea. He also served in the Army Reserves.
Jim loved all sports and was an avid Utah Jazz, Boston Red Sox and University of Utah football fan. Go Utes! He coached Little League Baseball for 9 years, coaching both his sons and even years in between where he impacted many youth and taught them the value of sportsmanship. He could often be found on the golf course where the 19th hole was always at the Hog Wallow Pub with his golfing buddies.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren and supported them through all of their activities. He never missed a soccer game or event.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Noella, his sons, Tim, and Randy, (Mary) and 3 grandchildren. Ryan, Alex & Madeleine. He was the youngest of six brothers and sisters. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
We want to thank the folks at Rocky Mountain Care & Hospice, especially Holly Summerhays, for their fabulous care.
Graveside services will be on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 10:00 am at. Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City.
