It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, James Jufur Deng, who left this world on March 15, 2025, at the age of 51. Born in Ruweng, Biemnom in 1974, he was a charismatic man whose warmth and humor touched the lives of everyone he met.
James was the proud father of six children: Jefur, Deng, Majak, Daw, Nefan, and Adud. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life was a testament to his genuine spirit and love for others. He had a unique gift for conversation, often leaving those around him laughing and uplifted.
A passionate scholar of South Sudan, James dedicated much of his life to studying and sharing the rich history and culture of his homeland. His knowledge and appreciation for South Sudan’s heritage inspired many, and he took great pride in teaching others about their roots.
As we remember James, we celebrate his vibrant personality, his love for family, and his unwavering commitment to his culture. He will be profoundly missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 9:00 at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 1058 W 400 S, Salt Lake City. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00, also at St. Patricks. Interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City.
