James Patrick Voegele

February 13, 1948 - August 27, 2011

James Patrick Voegele

James Patrick Voegele, age 63, of Sandy, Utah and Singapore passed away at home on August 27th, 2011, with his family at his side.  He was born February 13th, 1948 to Major William C. and Rita Connell Voegele in Fort Belvior, Virginia.  He was a classic military brat living all over the world.  After high school in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, he headed west to Idaho State University.  Following graduation Jim married the love of his life, Sharon A. Brown on May 15th, 1971 and they immediately started to move.

Two wonderful and dynamic sons soon arrived, Jason and Ben Voegele.  Again we were on the move, the next 28 years took us from Idaho to Chicago, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.  Our journeys blessed us with many adventures and wonderful friendships.

Jim was owner and CEO/Managing Director of Centimark PTE, LTD in Singapore, where he represented U.S. Food manufacturers.  His primary client was J.R. Simplot Corporation.  He traveled extensively throughout Asia, the Middle East and South Africa.  Prior to starting the company, Jim was with McDonalds Hamburger Corporation for 10 years.

Jim never wanted a thing for himself; he just loved his family and gave us the world.  There was no finer husband or father.  Jim was extremely proud of all of Sharon’s accomplishments and so proud and excited for his son’s accomplishments and entrepreneurial spirit.  Our hearts are broken and our lives will never be the same.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sharon; sons Jason of Brooklyn, NY and Ben of Cottonwood Heights, UT; brother W. Michael Voegele of College Station, TX; uncle Dr. George (Jeannine) of Ingles, FL; mother-in-law Margaret Brown; sisters-in-law Karen Wilson, Barta Jones, and Terri Brown; and brothers-in-law Roby Brown and Matt Wilson; he also leaves 3 nieces and 7 nephews.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents Voegele and Connell; and father-in-law Bart Brown.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 15th at 1:00 PM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 E. Creek Rd, Sandy, UT.  Family will greet guests from 12:00-1:00 PM.  A celebration of Life reception will be held following the service at the Voegele residence in Sandy.

Very special thanks to the fantastic staff at IMC Neurological ICU for the kindness and wonderful care shown to Jim, as you made this tragedy more bearable for us all.  Special thanks to Dr. Katie Thomas and Dr. Dean Roller and nurses Natalie and Rhi and special thanks to Suzy on 9th.   Thank you for your care of Jim, as well as your care for Sharon and sons.  We also thank the kind souls at Starks Funeral Parlor for their kindness and care.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to you local Ronald McDonald House.

In Loving Memory

Dear Sharon and family, It is with shock and dismay that I read today of Jim's passing. He was my "Little Brother in Sigma Nu Fraternity and Best Man at Nancy and I's wedding. The last I had known was that you were in Singapore. I had lost track since. My sincerest condolences to you and the Voegele family. Without saying he was a great guy and good friend. I will pray for the repose of his soul and keep his memory forever in my heart..

Dear family, I am so saddened at the terrible news of Jim's passing. I had the distinct pleasure of working with Jim while I was on assignment in China with the J.R. Simplot Co. during the initial development of the joint venture. Jim was such great help to me, not only from the business sense but helping me learn how to adjust to international employment and taught me a lot about the culture of the land. Jim had such a great sense of humor and we had many laughs together during some particularly challenging times as we pioneered the potato industry in China together. I know how much he loved his family as he spoke so often of you. I will always fondly remember the man who helped make those early times in China such a wonderful memory, my friend Jim. God Bless Jim and his entire family.

Sharon, I was saddened to read of the death of your husband. His obituary portrayed a man who lived an exciting life but who put his family first, and I'm sure in life he was much more than words can express. My prayers are with you and your sons.

I have often wonder about Jim and where his life took him. I am sad that it took his obituary for me to find out. I was friends with Jim during his ISU days and have many fond memories of him. He was fun, thoughtful, and down to earth. He still lives on in my memories. My sincere condolences to his family for this great loss.

Dear Sharon, We have such fond memories of Jim and you. We are so saddened to hear of his death, but comforted by the thought you all were able to be with him. The last time we saw Jim was on one of his trips back to Idaho when he realized our house was right next door to the house where you'd grown up. He took us to dinner, and indulged us with fine Cuban cigars, to the horror of other Gamekeeper diners. Great memories! You're all in our prayers. Fondly, Al & Deb

Hi Sharon, I was so very sorry to hear about Jim recently. I worked with him for 7 years when I was with the Cargill McDonald's Business Unit in Chicago from 1994-2000. Jim was a great friend. I will always remember the great trips Cliff Koroll and I took with Jim to visit McDonald's regional offices in Asia when he represented our company for frying oils for both Simplot and McDonald's. I also enjoyed seeing Jim at the McDonald's conventions every two years in either Orlando or Las Vegas. I wish you and your family the best during this tough time. Bill Lowe
