Age 104 passed away Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Spring Gardens Assisted Living in Draper, UT.
Jane is survived by her loving family, daughters, Nancy Jane Hansen and Barbara Moore (Paul), grandchildren, Richard Hansen (Leslie), Trevor Moore (Andrea’ Verzi), Mieka Shepherd, Ben Moore (Michayla Nielson), great grandchildren, Joy Shepherd, Kelsea Moore (Trevan Atkinson), Josh Shepherd, Jon Shepherd, Apollo VerziMoore, Elizabeth Shepherd, Phoenix VerziMoore and Elias Shepherd.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Richard R. Rohde, her father, William Wood, her mother, Millie Wood, her brothers, Owen and Arden Wood, her son in-law, Wayne Hansen and her grandson, William Hansen.
Jane grew up in Tigerton, WI where her parents ran Wood’s General Store. She attended the Lutheran parochial school in Tigerton through 8th grade and graduated from Tigerton High School in 1940. She was a member of the basketball team, played clarinet, liked to participate in school plays and played the lead role of Charlie in her Senior Class Play. She had many life- long friends and never missed a class reunion. She attended the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair.
Jane and her husband lived in WI, IL, MI and NM.
She worked on the assembly lines of Rayovac and Oscar Meyer, during WWII, in Madison WI. She worked in food service at a boys dormitory at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL and in food service at Thornridge High School in Thornridge, IL. but her real love was being a homemaker and caring for her family.
During those times she was a score keeper at basketball games, washed basketball team uniforms and hosted many after game events and dinners for students, teachers, public school and junior college administrators. Jane was a member of bowling and golf leagues. She enjoyed knitting and made baby booties for new mothers at the Barron WI hospital. She made numerous baby blankets, afghans, sweaters, dish clothes, crafted coaster and a number of pictures. She was a member of the Mothers Club, Band Parents and took part in various school groups in many cities as well a leading Brownie troops and chaperoning at Girl Scout camp. She was a member of The Women’s Club (a political and charitable organization) in Ironwood, MI. Throughout her life she was active in the Lutheran Church as a member of many committees and served as a council member.
A memorial service will begin at 2 PM and a celebration of life to follow at 4 PM will be held at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East Salt Lake City, UT 84106 on Thursday, July 30, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Guests are encouraged to use the parking and enter on the north side of the building. Interment will be at a later date in Tigerton, WI.
