Jane Marie Stickel

February 25, 1954 - August 21, 2021

Born in New Brunswick, NJ to Irma and Arthur E. Stickel.

Went to St. John’s elementary school and St. Peter’s Catholic Church

As a teenager, Jane was an excellent seamstress making her own clothes, prom dresses and party dresses for others.

Jane was an excellent student and wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps as an engineer.

To accomplish that she switched to New Brunswick High School in Somerset because they offered classes in trigonometry and calculus.  She could have gone to Rutgers University just blocks from her home, but chose Georgia Institute of Technology instead.

She graduated from Georgia Tech in 1976 with a BS in textile engineering and went to work in the small Georgia town, Nashville working the graveyard shift as a manager making polypropylene material.

She moved back to New Jersey working for 3M then transferred to Becton Dickinson headquartered in Franklin Lakes, NJ for several years.

She transferred to Sandy, Utah’s Becton Dickinson’s manufacturing plant on 9400 South and State Street across from the Expo center.  She worked in various managerial manufacturing positions at BD transferring to Regulatory Affairs as the Director responsible for labelling and quality control of all BD Sandy products across the globe.  Jane retired after 27 years in 2015.

Jane met and married Jim MacInnes at BD, Sandy working on a product recall together.  Married by Fr. Davich at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church, they were married 29 years.

Jim had two children, Andrew and Katie.  Jane took them under her wing nurturing, guiding and loving them as though they were her own.  They loved her deeply for all the care she gave during their formative adolescent and college years.

Jane loved water aerobics classes at Alta Canyon Sports Center, walking and gardening.  Red Butte Garden was a favorite spot especially with the Red Butte concert series in the summer months with a glass of wine in her hand.

Jane took up golf relatively late in life, but loved the game and always played her best without getting mad after a bad round.  She always thought the next round would be better.

Jane proudly served for many years on the Board of Directors of Hale Center Theatre and the Utah Golf Foundation.

She loved to travel. Her favorite places were Maui, The Big Island, Southern California, Cabo and working as a volunteer at the PGA’s Tour Championship at East Lake, GA, The Senior Championship in Hualalai, HI where she made many friends.  And many other smaller tournaments including Willowcreek CC and the Zurich Classic in New Orleans.

Jane leaves behind her husband, Jim, Katie and Andy, her son-in-law Jeff, daughter-in-law Erin and two grandsons, Ian and Mac.

Raised a devout Catholic, Jane always went to Mass and had an especially close relationship with The Blessed Mother.

She was predeceased by her mother and father, Irma, Arthur, and a brother Arthur J.

In September 2018, Jane was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer and many lesions in her brain.  She started treatment at the Huntsman Cancer Institute under the expert care of Dr. Wallace L. Akerley and his staff.  She fought determinedly through many treatment modalities but the relentless cancer finally won out ending her life on Saturday, August 21st, 2021 nearly three years after she was first treated.

We wish to thank Dr. Akerley, Kelly Moynahan, Laura Cannon, Dr. Lindsay Burt, Dr. Randy Jensen and all their nurses, MA’s and everyone who showed loving care to Jane through her journey at Huntsman. There is no finer facility for cancer treatment.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Huntsman Cancer Institute in Jane’s name would be appropriate.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 27, 2021 at noon at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 East Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights She will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC.

In Loving Memory

Jane will hold a special place in our hearts and prayers as she joins the angels and saints in heaven after a life well accomplished, loved and lived.  She was such a warrior through her long battle and always at peace with her struggle because she knew Jesus will always hold her in the palm of His hand.

In life Jane was always a breath of fresh air. I always looked forward to spending time with her when I travelled to Sandy or at Pat's RLT meetings. Maybe it was our Jersey roots but I think it was more her warm personality that drew me to her. RIP Jane.

Jim, Martha and I are very sorry for your loss.  Jane was good to work with on the many projects with which we were involved like Chameleon, K2 and Oz.  The last one was a career in itself, it seems.

Jim, such a heartbreaking loss. This memorial video is just beautiful and shows the light Jane always radiated. I felt privilaged to work so closely with her on Chamelion, and just seeing her around at work. She was a great leader and appreciated those who worked for her and with her. I loved to make her laugh. She will be missed. I pray for strength and comfort for you and your family. God will surely bless Jane and watch over her. Cheryl (Fox)

Jane was one of the most loving and giving people I have ever known.  She never forgot a birthday or anniversary or to say thank you through sweet, thoughtful cards.  And she always made Les and I feel like we were dear friends.  It was very painful to hear of her passing but now she is at peace.  Jane has accomplished her journey and has "graduated" while the rest of us are still working through all that life throws at us. I know she will be with Jim whenever he needs her as love doesn't die.  It is eternal.  Our thoughts and prayers goe with Jim and their family.

I'm just seeing this a month after her passing, first I send my condolences to the Family. I worked at BD when Jane came from back East and I worked with her from her first day as a Engineer and she was very Quality oriented and to have Quality always first, I Loved working with her for many years as she moved up in the company she always remembered my name and in her passing in the long halls of BD she alway said hi and had the biggest smile on her face, I didn't know about her health problems, I had a Aunt that had lung cancer also and was treated at the Huntsman Center too, my aunt had passed 1week after Jane. Cancer is a ugly disease to live with, but I know between Jane and my Aunt that we Have Them As Our Angels and they will always be with us. May God Bless You, and Your Angel Jane will always be ther to listen. Marla Lay

Jim, I am so sorry to hear of Jane's passing....I unfortunately just learned of this very recently.     Jane and I served together on the Utah Golf Foundation Board, volunteering together at several of the veterans golf events.    She was always so friendly and cheerful to everyone she encountered.   We will all miss her smile and positive attitude.    Take care and sincere condolences to you and your family.
