Janice L. Winget
September 20, 1943 - July 11, 2017
On July 11, 2017 our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and dear friend returned home to her family in heaven. They surely awaited her with smiles and open arms.
Jan was born on September 20, 1943 in Vernal, UT to William W. Stevens and Audrey D. Stevens. She grew up in Oakley, UT and graduated from South Summit High School. Jan married the love of her life, Scott J Winget in April of 1986. She was fortunate to have him share her travels and adventures. Throughout her life, Jan worked in various occupations. As a social worker, she rescued abused and neglected children. As an interior designer she ran her own business, "Jan's Interiors", where she shared her creative talents throughout Utah and Wyoming. She decorated many homes, the last being her own. Eventually she was able to retire from the Utah Cancer Registry at the University of Utah.
Jan was kind, generous, and selfless. Often she was caring to a fault, always putting others before herself. When we didn't behave as we should, she could sometimes be heard saying "That's just ridiculous". Jan adored her family: children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. One of her greatest joys was visiting and talking with them whenever possible. As we move forward in life, Jan will be in our hearts. We will forever benefit from her loving example.
Jan is survived by her husband, Scott; her children Cory (Suzie) Pope and Melanie (Stuart) Gehrke; her sister, Susan (Robert) Ogden; grandchildren Zachary, Caitlynn, Mackelle, Macoy, Nykole, Jordan, and Baylee; great-grandchildren Kai, Mia and Oliver; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jan's life on Thursday, July 20th from 6:00 PM -8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building.
In lieu of flowers Jan would prefer a donation to the Huntsman Cancer Institute, or any charity of your choice.
In Loving Memory
Dear Scott & family, I have been so saddened for our loss of your dear Jan. I was fortunate to have had her as a dear friend. I will cherish my memories of the times spent with her. Please take comfort in knowing she will be watching over all of you as she is a natural Guardian Angel in Heaven as she was on Earth. My heart breaks for our loss of Jan but I rejoice for her reunion with loved ones on the other side. What a celebration must be going on there!
