Janis Patricia Maestas
Our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and dear friend, passed away October 25, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born February 11, 1945 to Francisco Maestas and Angelica Benavides. She married in heart and spirit Leo Archuleta, together for over 30 years. She received a Bachelors of Arts from Westminster College, which she applied in the Upward Bound program at the University of Utah.
Jan loved to travel, explore and often enjoyed many adventures with her family, yet her greatest love are her grandchildren, Alexandra Maestas and Dakota Dumas; she was their greatest cheerleader and supporter.
She is survived by her children Konijo Dumas, Christian (C.J.) Maestas: two brothers Richard Maestas and Ron Maestas; sister Mae Lopez, along with numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Jan is now reunited in spiritual nirvana with her eldest son Aron Dumas who past away earlier this year.
A wake for friends and family will be held, Friday October 29, 2010 from 6 to 8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S. 900 E, Salt Lake City. Jan will be inurned at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Ave. and “T” Street, Salt Lake City.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the family.
“Mom, you may be gone but will never be forgotten and though we are apart, your spirit lives within me; forever in my heart.”
In Loving Memory
I cannot say, and I will not say That she is dead she is just away! With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand, She has wandered into an unknown land, And left us dreaming how very fair It needs must be, sine she lingers there. And you O you, who the wildest yearn For the old times step and glad return, Think of her faring on, as dear In the love of There as the love of Here; Think of her still as the same, I say: She is not dead she is just away! I love you mom, thank you for my life.

CJ, Cindy and Alex, I am truely sorry for your loss, My thoughts and prayers are with all of you, CJ, a little poem that I thought might bring a little comfort to you. ?I'm still here, waiting for your notice. I never left you, you have to know this. I'm Still Here I've seen you tell my story over and over again; my legacy that I have left for you to spread. I've heard the lines over and over again; they're forever pressed into the depths of my head. I have seen you laugh and I have felt your tears; your hopes, your dreams, even your rage, and your fears. Still, you know what you have to do; keep my memory and legacy living. Someone out there still needs you; love, strength, and support to them you will be giving. Do not worry about me, for I am doing great up here. Though it's hard to fathom my mortality being lost, you can always be assured, Son, I'm still here.?
