Jared Ryan Ekstrom

February 6, 1969 - June 22, 2017

Jared Ryan Ekstrom, 48, passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday June 22, 2017. He will be remembered as a favorite uncle by his 21 nieces and nephews. Jared's laughter, reflective sunglass, and excess of charisma will be missed by his family and friends.
Born February 6, 1969 in Salt Lake City. He was the fourth of six siblings. Jared attended Cottonwood High School. His mother, Jo Ann Ekstrom, inspired him to become a self-made chef. They worked for many years together in private and professional kitchens, and amazed all who were fortunate enough to experience their food. His jokester personality and creativity was shown in the masterful preparation and presentation of his sushi rolls, and earned him a loyal following.
For decades, he wore his hair long and rocked out to big hair eighties bands like Def Leppard and Motley Crue. He kept his music taste, even after he cut his hair. Jared had a passion for the extreme, and lived it on the back of his bullet bike and the wicked fall lines of Snowbird.
The great love of his life was his dog and fishing buddy, Shimmer. In Jared's loving memory, his family requests that donations are sent to the Best Friends Animal Society.

Dear Ekstrom family, I just wanted you all to know that I am sending my condolences, sympathy and sadness for the loss of Jared. I was only fortunate to have enjoyed his company a few wonderful times with the family. He was a very caring, kind and happy person and he made this old lady feel very special. He makes me think of this saying which is so fitting for you "I have this feeling there's one more star up in the sky tonight! And even though it's far away, its brightness and warmth still reach us here to make the night a little less dark."***

Our hearts are full for the Ekstrom family at this time. And to you Jared, I will never forget the good times we shared in the Five Alls kitchen, those late night poker games, the road trips to Wendover and fly fishing on the Provo River. Rock on old friend; until we meet again.

My deepest sympathies to the family and friends. Death at any age is difficult. May you find comfort in the words found at 1 Corinthians 15:26. It says: And the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing. And Hosea 13:14 says "From the power of the Grave I will redeem them; From death I will recover them." A wonderful promise from God who cannot lie.
