Jean Klimaj

Jean peacefully passed away on July 19, 2012.

She was one of ten children born to Wladyslaw and Mary Gawel on December 11, 1921 in Wilmington, Delaware.  She married Bernard M. Klimaj and moved to Agawam, MA where they raised three children.   She had a beauty shop in her own home which allowed her to raise her children.  After her husband passed away, she moved to Salt Lake City in 1988 where she became very active in the Sandy Senior Center and was part of the “Originals.”  She was a devoted member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.  Jean happily crocheted countless scarves for the homeless shelter.  She also enjoyed crafts and ceramics.  She adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.  Jean was a kind woman who was very well-liked by many friends.

She is survived by her children Bernard (Eileen), Maryann (James) Nicol, Robert (Sue); grandchildren Scott, Kristen, Alex and Connor; four great-grandchildren; and three brothers.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 24th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Holy Apostle Catholic Church in Cranston, Rhode Island on Saturday, July 28th at 10:00 AM.  Interment St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston, Rhode Island.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Spring Creek and One Care Hospice for all of their loving care of Jean.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sandy Senior Center or the charity of your choice in memory of Jean.

In Loving Memory

Dear Klimaj Family: I am so sad to read that Jean has passed away. She was a dear friend of my mother, Bernice Brown, for over 20 years at the Sandy Senior Center. I like to think they are together laughing about all the old times, seeing all their dear friends again, and talking about all the fun they shared over the many years. We will miss them both always.

I placed an item in freind and fellow Soldier's casket. It was a small medallion of St. Christopher traveler's saint'. Traditionally there is nothing against it just ask the familiy first. I am sorry for your loss. To the Soldier thank you for your service. Gratias Ago Tibi'

Yes, I dad do something fun. I went snmimiwg at Wet n'Wild water park and talked to you while I was on the way with a bunch of kids in the back of the pickup with Abby, who went with me too. I did a pretty good job with the backstroke. I think the kids are about to beat me at snmimiwg, so I hope I can hold up a little longer. I remember I didn't do such a good job when Darla was at Ft. Coob Lake, but an old indian helped us out, and I gave hime all the watermelons I had. I'm still growing tomatoes, green beans, squash and cucumbers. I hope I don't have to reward anybody with melones (cantaloupes) or sandias (watermelons), because they don't grow too good in El Paso, although I trying my luck again at pumpkins. Anyway, thanks for the memories, son, but remember; mine's the 10th,and your's is the (seven)teenth. Love always, Dad.
