Jeanell Hoffman

Love Does Not End With Death

Jeanell passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on March 6, 2011.

She was born Phyllis Jean Carr on December 12th, 1938 in Twin Falls, ID to Albert and Esther Carr.  At one day old Jeanell was adopted by Louis and Lucille Goeckner, but she always knew she was adopted and was the 13th biological child of the Carr family.  When Jeanell was 45 years old she found her family.  In 1983 there was a glorious reunion with her 7 brothers and 3 sisters who were still alive.

Jeanell found the greatest joy in life when she was with her family.   She deeply loved her husband of 52 years and her six children.  She absolutely adored her grandchildren and was anxiously awaiting the birth of her first great-grandchild.  Jeanell always had a smile for everyone.  She loved people and made friends with whomever she met.  Jeanell was very proud of the cheerleaders she organized.  She had about 50 little girls in full uniform cheering for the boys in little league football.  You could always spot the little league football players from Judge in the Ute conferences by their cheerleaders.

Jeanell’s chosen vocation in the Catholic Church was to be married and the ministry she chose was working with couples to improve their marriage.  She and her husband, Art, were a presenting team in marriage encounter and retrovaille.

Jeanell graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1957.  She married Art Hoffman the same year at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Twin Falls.

Survived by the love of her life, Art; children Randy (Joni), Kim, Lonny, Scott (Lucinda), Greg, Michael (Amanda); 13 grandchildren; siblings Peggy Denny, Marilyn Warren and Mary Carr.

Preceded in death by parents; ten brothers and sisters; brother and sister-in-law Earl Hoffman and Deloris Ambrose; grandson, Weston Hoffman; sons-in-law Robert Reilly and Kent Carter.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 14th at 10:30 AM at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 1800 South Orchard Drive, Bountiful.  Friends are invited to visit with the family and share refreshments at a celebration of life on Sunday, March 13th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.

I lieu of flowers, donation may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org

My sincere condolences to Art, Kim, and all the rest of the family. I have fond memories of Jeanell. She was so vibrant. I remember her coming over to take care of us and making us stew for dinner when mom was in the hospital having Chris or Michele, I'm not sure which. I will pray for your healing and peace and for precious memories full of love to get you through until you can see her again. Love, Kathy Higham
