Jeffrey Harold Smith

June 22, 1963 - December 11, 2019

“Gone Squatchin”

Jeff passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Intermountain Medical Center due to complications following a car accident. We will forever be grateful to the Shock Trauma ICU at IMC. They showed grace, compassion and love in their care.

Jeff’s time on earth in many ways felt too short but he did not fail to fill it to the brim with adventure, love and laughter. He loved the outdoors including fishing (especially on the Madison), camping, surfing, dirt biking and his endless search for Bigfoot. He never hesitated to share his enthusiasm with his family and loved ones. He spent every opportunity teaching his children and grandchildren many life-lessons. This is a trait he inherited from his dad Hal who he loved and admired.

Something everyone will always remember about Jeff is his sense of humor. He never failed to find an opportunity to pull a prank. You knew he loved you if he teased you. He was constantly laughing, making others smile. He was also passionate about college football (especially University of Utah), NASCAR, concerts, Maverick (Peach Tea), his truck “Big Foot” and researching conspiracy theories. He could also be caught watching COPS or Live PD while appearing to be asleep (touching the remote would prove otherwise).

Jeff took pride in working hard his whole life. For almost 20 years he worked as a Space Management Analyst for Associated Foods. This is where he perfected his daily pranks with his best friends Brandy and Kristy. He also loved his fun part time gig as a delivery driver at Madbrook Donuts. Jeff was there for 2 ½ years and enjoyed every minute of it… including all the free lemon donuts he could have.

Jeff was drawn to his soulmate Michelle immediately. He admired her strength, positivity and beauty both inside and out.  Not only did they share the same language, quirks, and sense of humor, they truly finished each other’s thoughts and sentences. Although their time was cut short they made a lifetime of memories.

He is preceded in death by his dad Harold Smith, stepmom Jonelle Smith and Eagles member Glenn Frey.

Jeff is survived by his wife Michelle and their fur baby Whiskey; Son, Corey(Alyssa); Daughters, Nikki(Ryan), Kristy, Dani and Savannah; Grandkids Mason, Tessa and Clara, Mom Linda, many siblings, other family members, and lots of friends who loved him.

A Celebration of Jeffrey's Life will be held, Friday, December 20, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East in Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building. Jeffrey will be laid to rest at a private family service on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South.

In Loving Memory

We are so saddened for your loss. Wish we could join you Saturday, but Danielle’s surgery will preclude that. Our wishes are that your memories and loving family will give you the additional strength to get through this trial, and that God will grant you peace as well.

I just wanted to say that Jeff played big part in me realizing what what I would want in a soulmate. Yes he was a prankster, but the reality of it was, is that he was funny, and enjoyed seeing the smiles on peoples faces, no matter how inappropriate. Jeff was also very sincere, and even with just a few profound words to me in my younger years, I could find solace, that things would be okay. Jeff’s example prepared me for my soulmate in a sense;) and even up to the end he knew how to put a smile on my face. I know that life here on earth is a true test for all of us, and while I know he had challenges he definitely found the joy and beauty in this life when he could. Especially through his kids, whom I adore and they’ll always have my unconditional love and support. My heart goes out to Michelle and Dani and I pray that all can find happiness in the midst of this unexpected challenge. I love Jeff and I know he is in a beautiful place surrounded by so many who love him!
