Jerome (Jerry) Henry Mooney II
April 7, 1922 - September 13, 2018
Jerry left this world peacefully at home on September 13, 2018, with his wife Bonnie and family in attendance.
Born April 7, 1922 in White Plains, New York, he and his mother moved to Salt Lake City after the death of his father in 1936. He attended East High and U of U, a Kappa Sigma alumni, then he and his class were graduated early when WWII broke out. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and sent to the Pacific Theater in 1944.
Wounded in action in the Philippines, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Silver Star and Purple Heart. He left the Army as a Captain. Contracting polio in his wounded leg and spent a year in hospital, he was told that he would never be able to walk without crutches. He overcame and walked with a slight limp and excelled in his favorite sport of golf for much of his life.
His first career began with meager vacuum sales supporting a wife and two children in his mothers home. Opting for less travel he moved into Real Estate winning salesman of the year many years in a row. In 1952 he opened Mooney Real Estate which became one of Utahs largest firms providing housing for hundreds of post war SLC county families. In the 60's and 70's he undertook land and multi housing development. A large project of 370 units was the first official condominium project created under Utah's condominium law. Many Salt Lake County residents and families live in homes and apartments that would not be here if not for Jerry's vision and drive. A founder and active contributor of the Central City Community project.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, his four children; Jerome III, Kurtis (Teresa), Kevin (Ellie), Mary (Jason) Brooks; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building. Graveside services to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City.
In lieu of flowers please donations to The Central City Recreation Center, 615 South 300 East, Salt Lake City.

Dear Mooney Family, on behalf of the entire Archet Family, please accept our deepest sympathies @ Jerry's passing. He was a great man & made many contributions to the community. After reading Jerry's Obituary, I was not aware that he was a highly decorated vet of WWII. It is interesting too me that many of the ?brave' men from the Greatest Generation would never speak privately about their heroism. I have many fond memories of Jerry , my Dad , & myself & Jerry III going fishing on Strawberry Reservoir when we were young kids in the ?BonEllie' cabin cruiser & Christmas Eve's @ your warm home in the 50's& early 60's, Jerry would always call me LeeLee, even after I was an adult & that would bring back a rush of great/ pleasant memories from days & events spent w/ Jerry & or the Mooney Family, God Speed Jerry.
