Jesus Maymi

January 16, 1926 - September 12, 2013

Jesus Maymi passed away peacefully on the morning of September 12th surrounded by family and around those he loved. Born on January 16, 1926 in his beloved Puerto Rico. In the year 1950 he married the love of his life Digna Dieppa and they had three beautiful daughters. In search for a better life for his wife and daughters Jesus learned of an opportunity in Bingham Canyon at the Kennecott Copper Mine. Without hesitation he moved his family to Utah, which in those days wasn't an easy task to accomplish especially from Puerto Rico. It required dedication, persistence, and the will to go after something more.

Jesus worked at Kennecott for 38 years operating bulldozers and just about every type of machine in operation at the time.  Without ever complaining he went to work in the mines to support his family no matter the conditions. In his retirement he was able to travel to his native Puerto Rico and spend time with those he loved.

Jesus was the type of man that showed unconditional love and support to all who surrounded him. He was always concerned about the happiness of his family even up to his last few days. The true unconditional love that Jesus gave had the power to heal wounds, bring comfort, and bind our family together no matter the situation.

Jesus was a modest man that didn't need a huge home or a fancy car but it was the small things that gave him the most pleasure. Mainly anything to do with his grandchildren: such as picking them up from school, taking them to tennis practice, playing cards, watching baseball games, going on walks, and taking care of them when they were sick. He lived selflessly and walked through life for his family and grandchildren. He instilled his values and hardworking ethic into both his daughters and grandchildren. The support, structure and love which he brought to his family will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

Jesus is survived by his wife Digna Dieppa, his three daughters Digna Loy, Violeta, Iliana, his seven grandchildren Digna Marie, RJ, Liana, Stephen, Stephanie, Sergio, Adriane, many family members in Puerto Rico, and countless others lucky enough to know him. We love you Chu!

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, September 16 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights. Friends may call upon the family an hour prior for viewing and visitation. Entombment to follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Ave. “T” Street, Salt Lake City.
