Jim Orphanakis
November 20, 1923 - September 27, 2021
Jim was born in Van Houten, New Mexico to Stella and Christ Orphanakis. Hard working, God fearing Greek immigrants.
He moved to Hiawatha, Utah at the age of 12. He graduated from Carbon High School as World War II broke out.
He served in the U.S. Army 32nd Red Arrow Division in 60 and 81 Mitameter Motors served in New Guinea, Morotai Island, Leyte and Luzon, Philippines. Where he was wounded.He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Metal. When the war ended he served in Japan as an M.P. After the war he settled in Salt Lake City where he worked and retired from Freed Motor Co.
He took exceptional care of his mother. He was a proud member of the Greek Orthodox Church. He was a faithful fan of the New York Yankees and never missed the World Series.
He is survived by his sister Mary O. Carras, brother George Orphanakis, nephews Van Carras, James Lowe (Noula), nieces Angela Carras (Jerry), Stephanie Orphanakis (Jeff), Michele Orphanakis (John) Ward, great nephews Cole (Jill) and Luke, great nieces Vanessa, Olivia, and Sophia.
Preceded in death by brother Mike (Jone), sister Grace (Norman) Lowe, two nephews Chris Lowe and Chris Carras.

Jim was layed to rest Friday, October 1, 2021 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah.
