JoAnne Roberg Earl
“Unforgettable”
JoAnne Roberg Earl passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on January 15, 2011 at age 80. She was born September 3, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Jessie Frances Reich Roberg and Sidney LeRoy Roberg. She was the second of five children.
In an interview by her great grandson, Grandma Jo summed it up: “Why do today what you could put off until tomorrow?” Oh Grandma why couldn’t you put off your passing just one more day? Ever the rock – Grandma, Mom, JoAnne– has been the one constant in our family through years of trials and tribulations. A survivor of life and a giver of love to all she met, Grandma Jo could always make you smile. Her whit was matched only by her sarcasm, coining phrases like “what’s in the bag…“ or “just call me Dukess”. At the very end her grandson mentioned that her blood pressure was twice as good as his. Grandma smiled and said “That’s because of all the exercise I’ve been getting.” This after an exhausting battle with cancer, that she made look very easy.
She was one of the most open and honest people you would have ever met. Jo said what she meant and meant what she said. G-ma was always concerned with everyone around her, comforting our family on her way out.
Bunga loved her sports – tennis, golf and figure-skating; her family, and her “prized possession” her television.
She is survived by her loving family, which include her younger sister Patricia West; three daughters, Roxanne Feller, Julie Jensen and Michelle Rhea; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. JoAnne was preceded in death by her two sons Jeff and Gregg Hardman and her husband Neil Hardman.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday January 19th at 10:30 AM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 south 900 East. Graveside service to follow at 12:30 PM at Elysian Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South.
In Loving Memory
Hey I just saw the obituary & wanted to tell you in case you didn't know there's a online guest-book on The Salt Lake Tribune's website that will be in place until next month. Which I think we should all share our thoughts and memories of Grandma Jo, I've already posted to it. I'd include the link but this box won't let me. Love David & Michelle. PS Take care.
