Johannes Steinvoort, Ph.D

1924-2009

Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away unexpectedly on October 9, 2009.

He was born in Rotterdam, Holland and moved to the United States after World War II.  After working in New York City, he continued his education at Utah State University earning his bachelors and masters degrees in civil and mechanical engineering.  He received his doctorate at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.  He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi, and Sigma Xi.  He was a Licensed Professional Engineer in New York and spent his career with Exxon.  He met his wife Lidia while on assignment in Wales, Great Britain.  They married and had two daughters both born in Sweden.  The family lived in eight different countries.  He was a renaissance man and there will never be another like him.  He was philanthropic and generous.  He supported Doctors Without Borders, animal rescue causes, and established the Harold J. Kempner Scholarship at the College of Engineering at Utah State University in honor of a favorite professor.

He is survived by his widow, Lidia; daughters Carin (Tom Cloward, M.D.) and Sandra; and treasured grandson, Adrian Johannes.  He is also survived by two sisters Joan Goss and Alida Vernon.  Private family services will be held.

I was very saddened to hear of Johannes passing. My sincere condolences to Lidia and the family!
