John L. Verschoor
June 4, 1926 - April 16, 2014
Beloved husband, father and grandfather John Lambertus Verschoor passed away peacefully April 16, 2014. Born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands June 4, 1926 to Adrianus Marcus and Neeltje (Sonneveld) Verschoor, John was the third of ten children.
While stationed in Jakarta, Indonesia (formerly the Dutch East Indies) during service in the Dutch Army, he met his future wife, Lily Tjoa. They married on May 31, 1952. They lived in both Jakarta and Rotterdam before immigrating to the United States and settling in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1959.
John worked as production manager at Edo Western Corporation for more than 30 years. A member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral, John was active in a variety of the church’s operations for more than 40 years. John enjoyed bowling, tennis and vacations at the beach.
He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Lily; sons Rudy (Alice Koskela), Peter (Kevin Alvey) and Ron (Rick Zeiger), four grandchildren, Ben, Michael, Lauren and Arthur. He is preceded in death by his son Adrian Edward.
A memorial service in John’s honor will take place Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Cathedral, 231 East 100 South in Salt Lake City with a reception following the service.
