John Margetts

March 23, 1948 - August 4, 2024

John Margetts (76), Son of Paul Eugene Margetts and Ethel Elizabeth Akert passed away suddenly due to health complications on August 4, 2024 at IMC hospital surrounded by loved ones.

John is survived by his wife Holly, and beloved dog Evie, his 3 boys; Jason (Heather), Chad, David (Sarah), and their mother Sue. Holly’s kids Shawn (Vicki), Tami (Scott), Heather (Tony) have become more than just family. He also left behind his 4 siblings; Steve (Marcia), Mike (Anne), Pat, Gay (Doug), 26 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

He exuded the attributes of a true man, valuing action over word. He spent the early parts of his adult life serving his country in the army. He was a student of his craft and expected nothing short of perfection of himself. He focused on elevating others along his way, and always sought to honor his family name. John found family at the forefront of his mind and dedicated his time to building relationships. “Don’t be wasteful,” he said, “especially with time. What’s lost cannot be replaced.” The more time he spent with his beloved Holly, the more he valued the cultures and excitement of exploring the world, relishing in fine cuisine, and cherishing the ones he loved most. He left us with a legacy of respect, equality, and hard work that will never be forgotten. His selfless sacrifice on behalf of each of us will forever be etched in our hearts. We love you Papa John.

I fondly remember John through numerous happy encounters with cousins while growing up in Salt Lake City. Most recently, it was a pleasure to see John again in Salt Lake City at Uncle Jerry's birthday celebration in 2023. I will always remember John because of his smile and jovial demeanor; he was a gentle giant, in my humble opinion. With deepest sympathy, cousin Ron & wife Helen Jones.
