John Mauricio Gallegos

September 10, 1935 - May 10, 2016

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle, John Gallegos unexpectedly returned to the arms of our Lord and Savior on May 10, 2016. The youngest of 22 children, John was born on September 10, 1935 in Ojo Caliente, New Mexico.

John possessed an engaging smile and beautiful spirit and was known to crack a joke for all he met. Even in his last moments, he was easing the spirits of those around him with his quick wit and sense of humor. John lived and loved deeply and opened his heart, and his door, to anyone in need. An excellent cook, he loved to make Mexican food (and make it hot!) He enjoyed spending time tending his garden and created a sanctuary full of beauty and serenity for all to enjoy. He worked for Kennecott Copper Mine for over 40 years and served many roles from truck driver to general foreman. During his tenure at the mine, he served as a leader and guardian to many men and was well loved and respected by those he directed. John and his beautiful wife, Efrosinia Eleanor Gallegos II, had six sons whom he taught to, "Work hard, be on time, and do a good job." He possessed a deep love for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. John was always there to lend a hand or shoulder, and often both.

John is survived by his sons John Leonardo (Margo), Ted Vincent (Cheryl), Michael Anthony (Melissa), Gerard Edward (Klea), James Matthew (Connie), Felipe Troy (Sophia). He also leaves behind a legacy of 27 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his wife Efrosinia; parents Juan and Feliz Gallegos; and 19 siblings.

To our amazing dad, you are loved and missed but never forgotten. You will always be our Big Bad John!

Services will be held on Saturday, May 14th at 10:00 AM Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, where a viewing will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment to follow at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 Redwood Rd., West Jordan.

Please accept our deepest condolences in the passing of our dear Uncle John, he will be missed. We used to talk at least twice a month. I was brought up my Grandpa Juan Gallegos. Uncle John was always so good to me. He was always telling me jokes. I will truly miss our talks. God bless you to all the family.

I am deeply sad about the passing of Uncle John. I can't believe that God took him so soon. But I feel blessed that I spoke to him last Saturday. We stayed in touch at least twice a month after the passing of my brother Joseph in 2008. He will be sorely missed, and I know his memory will live in our hearts. I pray that my dear cousins will find comfort knowing how lucky they were to have a dad as special as he was. May our Lord grant you peace during this time of mourning. Focus on what he represented - a loving human being. Blessings and our deepest sympathy.
