John Savoy Winters

December 9, 1942 - March 9, 2013

On December 9th of the year 1942, John Savoy Winters was born to Henry and Ruth Winters of Salt Lake City, Utah.  On March 9th of the year 2013 he left this place with his life complete.

John was the third of five children: brother Charles (Peggy) Winters, sister Diane (Dan) Lommel, brother Kim (Phyllis) Winters and sister Seidi Winters, who preceded him in death.

John's life spanned from Salt Lake to San Francisco to Lake Tahoe to Georgia and back to Salt Lake to begin his 38 year career with the US Postal Service.

On May 16th of the year 1970 he took Maxine L. Watkins of American Fork to be his wife who he stood faithfully by until his death.

John was a character to those who knew him and his love for those around him ran deep.  He was an avid golfer, Native American history buff, coin collector and food enthusiast but, his greatest love was his friends and family, most notably his beloved wife.
While the hole in our hearts from his untimely death is felt deeply, his legacy and work will endure.

In addition to his three siblings and his wife he is survived by his two children, son, Jamie (Vanessa) Winters and daughter, Jennifer Winters; and granddaughter, Ashlan Blue Winters, who was his joy.

A viewing will be held on Friday, March 15 from 6:00-8:00pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, where friends are invited to visit with the family.

In Loving Memory

Dear Dad, I still remember those early mornings in 1991 when you would do everything you could to shake us girls out of bed so we would not be late for school, and you would not be late for work. You opened up your home to me and took me in as if I were your own flesh and blood. We are all blessed to know such a funny, genuine, big hearted, Teddy bear that you were. To the family, I am so sorry Dad is no longer with us, but we will always have his memory deep within us, and the comfort of knowing he has been welcomed into those beautiful Pearly gates. Tom and I love you all.
