John “Ty” Rasmussen

August 6, 1961 - June 3, 2025

John Ty Rasmussen known as “Ty” was born August 6, 1961 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He died June 3, 2025 from complications of Leukemia. Ty was a man of simple authenticity, kindness and always ready to help his family or a friend. He spent the past 18 months battling AML Leukemia. Ty fought valiantly against this cancer and wanted a “win” for the Rasmussen family. He personally thanked EVERY doctor or provider and would often express gratitude with a fist bump. He was the bravest man we have known and endured a bone marrow transplant and other therapies. Ty spent the better part of the last 18 months at the home of his sister, Shauna.

Ty’s own home was a place of great pride and comfort as he was fiercely independent. He had just finished a beautiful outdoor patio which he was looking forward to enjoying. He missed taking care of his horse, “Junior”, his yard, and planning his next fishing or hunting adventure. Ty restored a 1969 Camero in honor of his nephew “Louie”and spent nearly ten years to get it just right. He loved driving to car shows with his buddies and showcasing his car. Ty grew up in Salt Lake City, riding horses, bicycles and fishing in the nearby creek. He picked pineapples on the island of Lanai for a summer and was proud of being able to endure the heat and hard work. Something Ty was never afraid of.

He graduated from Olympus High School as an Eagle Scout and following graduation Ty served an LDS mission to Lansing, Michigan and loved the people he was privileged to meet.  Ty’s career of over 40 years was as a “company man” with Questar Gas Company. He read meters, dug ditches, poured concrete, trained employees, and met with most building developers in Utah. Ty developed friends and colleagues throughout the entire State of Utah. He worked hard for his advancements and was dedicated to his employer. He took an early retirement and was always so happy that he could spend time outdoors doing what he loved. He told a funny tale about the President of Questar coming into his office from to time to time and closing the door, as they talked fishing, hunting and laughed together. Ty was an avid fisherman and fished the Kenai river in Alaska, over 30 times. He hunted in many states and found great enjoyment sharing those experiences with his father, Ladd and his friends.

Ty liked his food hot, his drinks cold and his sister’s cooking. He loved western music and his dog Grizz. If you knew Ty, you could attest to his integrity, kindness and wicked sense of humor. You could rarely pick up the tab and his generosity was both with family and friends.  Ty had a work ethic that was unparalleled and a playful sense of “time off.” He checked in with his dad nearly everyday to care for him. He treated his family and friends with love and respect and never wanted to put “anyone out.” One of the most difficult experiences for Ty was living away from his home so that he could receive treatment at Huntsman Cancer Institute. When Ty was not hospitalized, he looked forward to sitting on Shauna’s patio, eating home cooked meals and sharing lots of laughs and good times with all of his friends.

Ty is survived by his father, Ladd Rasmussen, sister, Shauna Rasmussen and half sister, Holly. A special thank you to “Pebbles” also known at “Agent 99.” Her dedication to Ty and Shauna was limitless and they both loved and valued her expertise and humor. Preceded in death by his beautiful horse Junior, his beloved mother Marlae, niece Amberlee Hatton-Ward and nephew Louie Hatton-Ward.

As per Ty’s wishes he always told his sister Shauna, to keep it simple. There will be no formal viewing and his body will be laid to rest on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 11:00 am at Elysian Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South, Millcreek, Utah. There will be a celebration of Ty on Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at 26 East 600 North, Wellsville, Utah. Everyone is welcome to attend both. Cowboy attire welcomed. Ty wanted a simple service. “Don’t fuss,” he would say, “Howdy…Now Git!” Also, “Always take care of your family and friends and enjoy every moment you spend with them.”

We love our Ty!

Ty was one of my most choice childhood friends. He lived just three houses up the street from where I grew up on 13th East. We spent many summers hanging out in Mr. Summerhays' apple tree and sawmill, hunting grasshoppers and sharing childhood dreams of what we hoped to become one day. He was a hero to me as he stood up to my big brother Dave even though my brother was older and picking on me at the time. Ty told him to stop picking on me or else. He was a great artist, and drew many pictures of animals and dinosaurs. I will never forget him.

If ever there was a boy easy to love it was Ty. He had strong opinions and would not appreciate the way I teased my little brother, Toby. He was Toby's fierce defender. Marla and Ladd raised wonderful children that everyone admired and loved. Ty darlin man, you will be missed by so many.

Ty was my boss at Questar for a few years. He was so much fun. There was a funny video of a dog and a chimp that we would send back and forth on rough days. He made me laugh a lot!! He talked about his family and loved you all very much. And his buddies , Junior and Gris. He loved his trips with his dad to Alaska and I always worried they would get attacked by bears. He was kind and caring and I love him a ton. I am so sad to here of his passing. My love and prayers to his family and many friends. Penny
