Johnnie Kirby Jr.
November 3, 1927 - June 18, 2014
Johnnie Kirby Jr., our beloved father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and great uncle peacefully departed on June 18, 2014. Johnnie was born November 3, 1927 in Columbus, Texas to Bessie M. Tatum and Johnnie Kirby (both deceased). He married Fredia Mae Royster (deceased) on April 24, 1951. Johnnie had a 25 year military career deploying him to Japan, Thailand, Germany, Saudi Arabia and Panama. After retirement from the military, he worked for Utah State Soil Conservation and Utah State Corrections. He received a BS degree in Sociology from Westminster College. His interests included gardening, bird watching and fishing. More importantly, he loved his church and served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Johnnie is survived by his six children, Lisa, Bobbie, Valerie, Crystal, Pierre, Victor; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters: Sandra, Barbara, and Nelda, Brothers: Waymon, Clyde, Therman, Marion Vance, Jerry, Gary, Derce; and many nieces and nephews. His sister Oralee and brother Connie both preceded him in death.
A viewing will be held on Friday, June 27th from 6-8 PM and funeral service on Saturday, June 28th at 9:00 AM at Historic Trinity AME Church, 239 East Martin Luther Blvd., Salt Lake City, Utah. Saturday Interment is at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City.

Cousin Valerie, I am really sorry to hear about your father. My prayers are with you as well as your brothers and sisters. I know this is a difficult time but you will pull through. With every season in life there is a reason. With every season there is a new beginning. I love you!!
