"Papa Dave"

1953 – 2016

Devoted dad, grandpa, brother and friend, Jon David Fish, 63, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016, in his home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 5, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Daniel Eugene and Carole Defa Fish.

Dave grew up in Hunter, Utah, on the family farm and graduated from Cyprus High School in 1971. While continuing to farm, he went to work for Kennecott. Following the Kennecott layoff in 1985, Dave decided to pursue his education and returned to school where he earned his degree in business management. For the next 25 years, he tirelessly worked in the pump and water industry where he made many life-long friends.

Dave had many joys in life, including coaching his son's baseball teams, growing flowers in his greenhouse, hunting, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends. Dave was an avid fisherman his entire life and looked forward to family fishing trips in Wyoming each summer and any other opportunity he had to put his boat on the water. He had both a smile and laugh that could light up a room. Dave touched many lives and his wisdom and guidance will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Dave is survived by his two children who cared for him until the very end, Lindsey Gillmor (Geoff Gibbens) and Daniel Fish (Crystal); two grandchildren Reagan and Jackson; two sisters Barbara DiIorio and Karen Fish; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel Eugene Fish and Carole Fish, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, September 26th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking provided on the north side of the building. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 27th at 11:00 AM also at Starks Funeral Parlor. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City.

The family would like to express our special thanks to Jared and the rest of the oncology team at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Thank you also to the nurses and staff at the South Jordan Infusion Center.

I didn't know Dave outside out huntsman (although I did run into him once at Home Depot and that made us Home Depot buddies) but in the short time I knew him he made a huge impact in my life. He is truly one of the most amazing men I have met and I am beyond grateful that I got to be a small part of his journey. Lindsey, Daniel, Karen and family lots of love and thoughts coming your way.
