Jonathan 'Jono' P. Herrick
August 9, 1961 - May 29, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Jonathan Pyper Herrick, affectionately known as “Jono.” He passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on May 29, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a passion for golf.
Jono was born on a warm summer day on August 9, 1961, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to his loving parents, Paul and Julie Herrick. As the youngest of three siblings, his childhood was filled with joy, laughter, and many fun days on the sports fields. He shared a special connection with his sister, Cindy, and brother David, whose memories will forever be intertwined.
Jono's love for golf began at a young age, and his earliest memories were spent on the greens with his father at Bonneville Golf Course. Although Jono excelled in many categories, it was quickly apparent that he was exceptionally talented in the sport of golf. In 1975 Jono received the Salt Lake City “Junior Golfer of the Year Award.” He graduated from Highland High School in 1979 with the esteemed honor of High School All-American, which earned him a scholarship to the University of Utah.
His unwavering commitment to the sport led him to various roles within the Salt Lake City golf community. His journey began as a Starter at Bonneville under Richard C. Kramer, and he worked his way up to become the Assistant Golf Pro/Tournament Relations Specialist, leaving an enduring impact on the golfing community. His quick wit and unique sense of humor had the power to transform a simple round of golf into a riotous affair. Over the years, his dedication to the game allowed him to achieve remarkable scores, including an impressive 63 at Bonneville Golf Course, a tournament score of 65 at Logan Country Club, 66 at Wasatch Mountain, as well as an astounding eight hole-in-ones. However, his crowning achievement was becoming a Class A PGA member with lifetime status.
In 1995, Jono found his soulmate in Wendy Ann (Martin) Herrick, who became his beloved wife. Their love story was one of unwavering support, shared dreams, and countless cherished moments. Jono also embraced his role as a stepfather to Wendy's son, Stefan Shelton, becoming a guiding presence in his life and fostering a deep bond that will never fade.
Jono is survived by his two siblings, Cindy Stroh (Bruce) and David Herrick (Carla), nieces and nephews, Jaimie (Jeromey), Tiffany (Jack), Julie (John), Cody (Maggie), KayCee (Benjamin), Jenna Herrick, and great nieces and nephews Braxton, Adilee, Zetta, Mano & Lettie. Jono treasured the moments spent with each of them, creating lifelong memories that will be cherished by all.
While Jono's life revolved around golf, his heart was always filled with love for his friends and family. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, stepfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend guiding us through the fairways of life.
In remembrance of Jono's furry best friends, Gussie Marie and JoJo, please donate to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in lieu of flowers.
A Celebration of Jono’s life will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 6-9 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Millcreek. Guests are encouraged to use parking and entrance on the north side of the building. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony.
