Jonathon Guy McNey

March 14, 1991 - July 25, 2025

Jonathon Guy McNey, 34, passed away surrounded by his family on July 25, 2025.
Jonathon was born to Vincent and Elizabeth McNey on March 4, 1991. The second of four children, he was close with all of his siblings and was their best friend into adulthood.
Jonathon loved traveling, especially to Japan, one of his favorite places in the world. He enjoyed learning new languages and studied Japanese, Greek, Latin, and French. He also loved spending time in nature and was passionate about conservation efforts. One of his favorite things to do was hike in Capitol Reef National Park.
Jonathon was a talented graphic designer and artist who worked in multiple media, including paint, charcoal, ceramics, metal, and stained glass. He had many passions, spanning from philosophy and classic literature to 70s culture and cooking. He was a Renaissance man who knew a little something about everything, and his friends and family frequently looked to him for advice. Jonathon helped his dad build their home in Teasdale, Utah, and together they restored and built his first car, a 1971 VW Beetle, fondly nicknamed “Bugly.” He gave freely of his time and supported his family members in their creative projects and endeavors; his substantial contributions made their success possible.
Jonathon’s kind nature was reflected in the thoughtful gifts he gave others and the way he treated those around him. Children and animals adored him, as did everyone who knew him. Despite years of health challenges, he never complained and was always determined to live life to the fullest. He will be remembered for his quick humor, gentle spirit, and boundless generosity. Words can’t express the impact he had on our lives and the hole he leaves in our hearts.
Jonathon is survived by his parents Vince and Liz, his sisters Katie and Emily, his brother Christopher, and his niece Kiri as well as his granddad, nana, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is a registered member of the Ngāi Tahu (Māori) iwi in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Please join us in celebrating his life on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 7:00 pm at Cactus & Tropicals, 12252 Draper Gate Drive, Draper, Utah. En lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his family’s GoFundMe to cover medical and burial expenses: https://shorturl.at/yPLCX.

In Loving Memory

Words seem so hollow at a time like this. Nothing I can say can can can heal aching hearts and the emotional pain associated with the passing of a son, grand son, sibling or friend. It’s just all very sad indeed. But the good and bright side is a loving God that can do all those things i mentioned that i am powerless to control. But a loving Heavenly Father in his ever loving wisdom has provided a Savior and in conjunction with the Holy Ghost can do miraculous works to heal hearts, change our perspective to one with eternal understanding and help us feel joy in an otherwise sad and hopeless situation. My hope for the McNays and those whose hearts are aching at this time can feel the comforter and given a glimpse of eternity and knowof the infinite reaches of the atonement of our Savior and the miracles can bring about in all of our lives. I was not close with Jonathon in his later life but was his Sunday school teacher when he was 14 and 15 years old and I know he was taught the gospel of Jesus Christ by a very loving and supportive family. He was a good boy, and I very much enjoyed reading about his accomplishments and his passions in life.. He’s a good example of what we should all be doing to make the best of this life and I’m grateful for the insight and lesson that I was taught reading his obituary. Thank you for sharing that about him. Jonathon and McNay family, you will be in our thoughts and prayers to be comforted at this difficult time. Will and Lisa May
