Jorge Camacho-Chan
April 14, 1973 - August 7, 2021
Our cherished friend, father, and husband, Jorge Camacho-Chan, passed away the morning of August 7that the young age of 48. Although cancer took his life, he adamantly refused to feel he was losing a battle to this disease. He preferred to view each day as a fight to live life on his terms despite the challenges and obstacles that cancer placed in his life. He fought hard to spend each day with those he loved – his family and friends. Even to the end, he gave all he could to take care of those he loved and to help others. If you were lucky to be in his circle of family and friends, you knew he would drop everything to help a friend in need. Jorge truly had a kind, loving, generous heart.
Jorge was born in Mexico City and later moved to Merida in the Yucatan Peninsula. In Mexico, he leaves behind his mother Landy Chan and his siblings Mireya, Marco, and Miguel. Family meant everything to Jorge. He loved his mother and siblings deeply. He was concerned for their well-being and worked hard to ensure they were cared for. Despite any physical distance between them, they remained an integral part of Jorge’s life.
In Mexico, Jorge met Camille Sharp and they returned to Utah together where he eventually studied computer science. They had a beautiful daughter, Paulina. Although Jorge and Camille later divorced, they remained good friends throughout his life and Jorge always considered Camille and the Sharps family. Jorge’s daughter, Paulina, was always the light of his life. He loved his daughter very much and valued the time he was able to spend with her and the close relationship they shared.
Later, Jorge met and married Sharon Butterfield. Together, they took care of Sharon’s children Aaron, Daniel, and Felicity. Jorge was a hard worker. He took on a lot of responsibilities in this union. He saw that he could make a difference in all of their lives. He was always looking for ways to make the world a better place by helping the people he came in contact with each day. He worked tirelessly to leave the world and the people he loved in a better, happier place.
As time progressed, a grandson was added to this mix. Jorge loved spending time with his grandson, Emiliano (Paulina’s son). Emi brought so much joy to his Papi. Jorge never passed up an opportunity to spend time with his grandson. He cherished every moment he had with Emi. His favorite moments were those spent with the people who mattered most to him.
Jorge loved to travel! He loved building memories through traveling and adventures with his family, friends, and co-workers. He enjoyed good food and good times with those he loved. These are the moments he cherished and wanted those who loved him to remember. These moments with friends and family are the moments that made life meaningful for him.
A celebration of life will be on August 20, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Jorge wanted to be remembered for who he was and for the fun times we all had together. You can stop in and enjoy seeing pictures and sharing memories of his life.
In Loving Memory
Sharon, I'm sorry for your loss. I have no great words to say to make anything better. I'm sending you virtual hugs which aren't very useful because real hugs are better.

Jorge was a pleasure to work with and talk with. He had a genuine concern for how you were even when he was not feeling well himself. I will miss talking to him.

When I met Jorge about 10 years ago at EMC he offered to help me in a house proyect, and I was impress on how selfless he was, always woth a smile and good jokes. The very first time he came to my home, we were having lunch and he told me that I should treasure my family above everything, that it was all I really need in life to be happy. As the years passed by we became good friends, worked together and shared desks and often share good laughs. He truly loved life and enjoyed time with the people closed to him. I will forever miss you Jorge, you showed us strength in the rainy days, I will not forget your advise. Rest is peace my friend Mario Garcia

Jorge was always kind and willing to talk. He would always stop and take time to make sure you were OK. I worked with him for several years at EMC, he would help anyone no matter what was going on. I personally learned a lot about how to treat each other from his example. He also loved to talked about his kids, he was so proud of them and who they were and had become. You will be missed my friend.
