Jose Jubie Varoz

December 17, 1938 - June 30, 2020

Our dear Jubie has passed on, but his spirit will live on forever in our hearts.

Born in New Mexico to Benigno and Carolina Varoz. Jubie was raised in Salt Lake City. Jubie was a serviceman beyond his years in the Air Force and Salt Lake City Fire Department. He retired as captain after 30 plus years. He was always proud and reflected often on the camaraderie gained through his duty.

His hands reflected many lifetimes. His down-to-earth and approachable style kept him young at heart. He was always chatting with people walking by his home in Millcreek and grew close with neighbors, mostly through sharing backyards, gardens, songs and stories. Jubie’s ambition was relentless in he and his wife’s garden, no matter the heat from the Utah sun. He was an enthusiastic and dedicated NASCAR fan.

Jubie is preceded in death by his parent and his siblings Bel, Ben, Lupe and Pat. Jubie is survived by his children, siblings and wife, Gaylene Varoz. His love for his grandsons, Ryken and Brexden, kept him lively and full of purpose, love and happiness. They were the Three Amigos. They will forever cherish the time they spent with their grandpa and countless memories made with him forever.

A wake in Jubie’s honor will be celebrated at a later date. Please check back for updated service information.

In Loving Memory

Dear Gaylene, So sorry for your loss. Jubie was one of Sid's favorite Fireman & Panther friends. He was always so kind to me. . . . .Thanks to him I learned how to jitterbug! Sid will be so glad to see him again. With lots of love and understanding to you and the family.

Julie I will see you sooner than others think. You were a great friend and mentor in the fire service and while we were off. You taught me a lot about gardening and I still plant hundreds of flats of vegetables and flowers annually. Wish we could have gone fishing.

Dear Varoz family, Done of my fondest memories of Jubie revolve around my years with Salt lake City fire department. As my Capitan of station 14, Jubie was a constant source of humor, kindness and incredible self confidence. I will always remember him teaching me to drive the tiller on truck 14 and the going in his eyes as he saw the love I had for that position. Playing racquetball in the station, he had a wicked serve and loved to show us boots how to play the game. His sense of humor was often exhibited through his laugh and smile as he would make is be up and at our assigned apparatus after the morning gongs went off. He had an incredible sense of duty and pride in his job as capitation and would really pass on his knowledge to us as we tried to learn our jobs and duties. I pray for your comfort at this time and for God's arms to surround you with love at the passing of a man that was a force of nature and a kind soul. His bless you all, Jeffrey Scott Friend
