Jose Onesimo Martinez Jr.

Jose Onesimo Martinez Jr., 85, of Salt Lake City passed away December 15th, 2010.  Dad was born October 7th, 1925 in Los Brazos, New Mexico to Jose Onesimo Martinez Sr. and Genoveva Luna Martinez. 

He served honorably during World War II in the European theater as a combat infantryman.  Married Arabella Valdez in 1948 in Trujillo, Colorado, later divorced.  Dad was a multifaceted craftsman, yet his talent was in welding, which he worked for many years.  He spent his later life in the mountains and deserts of Utah.

Survived by daughter Sarah Howard; sons Joseph Samuel Martinez, Michael (Ann) Martinez; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter Maryann; sisters Soledad Martinez and Delfina Gurule.

Friends may call upon the family for a viewing on Sunday, December 19th from 6 to 8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.  A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 20th at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 400 South 1000 West, Salt Lake City.  Interment to follow at Utah Veteran’s Memorial Park, 17111 S. Camp Willliams Rd., Bluffdale.

May Onesimo rest in peace now with Tita and Grampo and his sisters. He lived his life his way all the way to his passing. He had the BEST children he could ever wish for. May you all be comforted knowing you took the best care of your dad at least as much as he would allow you to. I know for a fact he loved you all with all of his heart.
