Joseph Jones Bennett

April 16, 1932 - February 27, 2016

God loaned us Dad for 83 years, now his wonderful contract is up and a long awaited Bennett family reunion convened at Heaven's Gate with his father, mother, brother, sister, and his Heavenly Father.

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather, Joseph Jones Bennett, entered into eternal rest on February 27, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Having finished his work on earth, he departed this world bound for the next with great anticipation. Joe the youngest of 3 children was born on April 16th, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah to William Oliver Bennett and Mary Elizabeth Jones Bennett.

Joe attended the University of Utah earning his Bachelor's degree. A dedicated teacher, he worked in the Salt Lake City School District at Hillside Middle School for 39 years as a mathematics teacher and curriculum specialist. Dedicated to his profession, many students acquired a love for mathematics under his tutelage and went onto successful careers. He also enjoyed interacting with people as he drove tour buses during the summer and on weekends. His entertaining knowledge of the city was shared with many as he was among the select few to drive during the Winter Olympics.

Joe married the "Love of his Life" Loma Diane Straley, on 26 December 1978 followed by an eternal solemn sealing ceremony in the Jordan River Temple on October 26th, 2004.

Beloved and respected by many for his honesty, integrity, humor, humility, and devotion to family and Christ's teachings. Joe is remembered for his generosity, selfless spirit and willingness to help those in need. He was truly a remarkable man. He knew that he was a son of God and strived to live in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his loving wife Loma; children JoLyn (Harold) Foerster, Kevin (Becky) Bennett, David (Laura) Bennett, Lianne Ashby, Melanie (Wes) Monroe, Chris Thompson, Harmony (Richard) Kunz, and Tami (Marlow) Jones; along with 24 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father William Oliver Bennett; mother Mary Elizabeth Jones Bennett; brother Oliver Jones Bennett; and sister Barbara Jones Bennett English.

Friends may call upon the family for a celebration of Joe's life on Friday evening March 4th, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East Salt Lake City. I'm so sorry for your loss. Uncle Joe was a great guy and I will miss his humor. I'm glad I got a chance to know him even if if was for a short period. May Heavenly Father be with you all now during this difficult time. God bless!
