March 8, 1932 - December 24, 2009

Joseph R. Maranowski"The Silver Fox" Joseph R. Maranowski, our wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away December 24, 2009, in his wife's arms with his grandson by his side. Joe passed quickly and peacefully and we are grateful. Joe was born March 8, 1932, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to Helen and Joseph Maranowski. He grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. He was married for 57 years to Sylvia Topczynska. Dad had a BS in Engineering and a minor in Management. He worked for 26 years in industries such as aerospace, tool management, facilities, chemical and mechanical engineering. He achieved Senior Engineering Status. He was admired and respected by his colleagues and was a mentor to many.Dad served during the Korean War in the Army Security Agency and was stationed in Germany. He was a proud Polish kid from Pittsburgh and was an avid Steelers fan. He was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.Dad had a brilliant mind which was evident in his achievements in engineering, music and art. He had a remarkable memory and enjoyed reminiscing.He was proud of his children: Mark (Lynn), Eric (Laurie), Kathy and Lisa and was always ready to give advice to help us whether we wanted it or not. He was there for us. He loved and enjoyed his grandchildren Erica, Matthew, Brandon (whom he helped care for), Julianne, Aiden and Kolbie.Dad was a proud man and it was hard for him to accept help but Mom was his angel and he often said she was the only reason he lived so well for so long and he was indebted to her. Thanks mom. Our thanks to Dr. Brad Madsen, Dr. Steven Towner and Nurse Sue for their care and attention. Msgr. Mannion provided great support at Dad's passing and we are grateful. We also thank Starks Funeral Parlor for taking such good care of our dad and us as well. Thank you for being our husband, dad and grandpa. We thank Jesus for freeing you from your pain and giving you a new life without suffering. We love you! A viewing will be held on Monday, December 28th from 6 to 8 PM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 E. Spring Lane, Salt Lake City. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 29th at 11:00 AM also at the church.  Inurnment at St. Augustine Cemetery, 250 Wible Run Road, Pittsburgh, PA. Arrangements entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor.  Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.starksfuneral.com.
