Joshua Kane Stanchfield

July 3, 1974 - January 12, 2026

Joshua Kane “Josh” Stanchfield, age 51, passed away on January 12, 2026, in Sandy, Utah. He was born on July 3, 1974, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was raised in Holladay, Utah.

Josh attended St. Vincent’s Elementary School and graduated from Judge Memorial High School, where he excelled in athletics—football, lacrosse, and most especially wrestling. Josh was also a bright and determined student, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Westminster College and later added an Associate of Applied Science degree from Salt Lake Community College.

Josh began his career working with adults with severe disabilities. After several years, he returned to school and pivoted to the medical field. Josh dedicated more than 20 years of his career to Interventional Radiology, a field that reflected both his technical skill and his care for others. Most recently, he worked at a VA clinic, where he took great pride in helping veterans—service that mattered deeply to him and to those he served alongside.

On April 7, 2023, Josh married the love of his life, Cassi Lynn Stanchfield, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was marked by deep devotion, laughter, and unwavering love. Even during his final weeks, which were filled with pain following surgery, Josh continued to show up—tagging along to holiday festivities and spending meaningful time with family and friends, exactly where he wanted to be.

Josh never had children of his own, but he fully embodied the role of “Grandpa,” pouring endless love into his wife’s grandchildren, whom he adored deeply and without reservation.

Josh loved fly fishing, especially the time he spent with his dad on the Teton River and the South Fork of the Snake River. He also enjoyed camping in the San Rafael Swell and faithfully cheering on the Green Bay Packers. He found joy in simple things—being outside, planting flowers for Cassi, watching every plane and helicopter fly over their home, and dancing in his goofy way just to make his wife laugh and his friends smile.

He found purpose and passion in rescuing dogs, giving compassion and care to animals in need. Josh fought many demons throughout his life, but even so, he gave everything he had—and more—into loving his wife, his family, his friends, and his animals. His resilience, loyalty, and capacity for love defined him.

Josh is survived by his beloved wife, Cassi Lynn Stanchfield; his parents, John and Peggy Stanchfield; his brother, Paul (Jen) Stanchfield; his sister, Jennie (Jason) Smith; his stepchildren, Jordan (Kaylee) Lake, Tanner (Alyssa) Lake, and Randi (Dustin) Haskell; and his grandchildren, Asher Haskell, Kenzleigh Lake, Jack Deboer, Jayven Lake, Keslynn Haskell, and Laken Haskell, with one grandchild on the way.

Josh is also survived by his parents-in-law, Caleen and Daryl Wilcox, along with many dear friends who were considered family.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Charles “Jim” Stanchfield and Joseph Bartley “Joe” Stanchfield, as well as his grandparents, Alice and Lester Schmitt; Charles Stanchfield; and Irene and Ken Way.

A Celebration of Life will be on Monday, January 19, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to park on the north side of the building. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 11:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 Spring Lane, Holladay. Josh will be laid to rest following mass by at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Avenue & T Street.

Please share your memories and photos with his family.

In Loving Memory

Josh was one the kindest people that I knew, he had a heart of gold when it came to helping his patients, and animals. He loved Cassi more than anything he always would smile when he and I talked about her and said, "yup that's my lady". Josh I will cherish the year and a half that we worked together and became friends and introducing me to Cassi. Fly high my friend you are no longer in pain. Cassie, stay strong, you are one of the strongest women I know, and I am very glad that you have the support that you have.

I am saddened to hear of Josh's passing, I have so many memories of childhood shenanigan with Jennie and Josh. Scary movies, playing ghosts and graveyards, climbing the apple tree, lazy summer days in the pool, and of course his love for beloved Ski and Christy. I will remember him fondly. My heart goes out to his family.

We were fortunate to know Josh when he was growing up. He was always fun loving and full of energy. As an adult Josh treated a member of our family. This was a positive experience with good results. Josh was very gentle, kind and professional. We are all very sorry for your loss. The Pignanelli family

John & Peg, my saddened heart goes out to the whole Stanchfield family and extended family of Josh at this time of loss. I cannot imagine the level of grief y'all are experiencing by losing a son, a dad, a companion, and a friend to so many. One of my fondest childhood memories is spending time on Lake Powell for an unforgettable adventure and mischief with Josh and the clan. I can only hope he has found peace.

The shock of seeing Josh's face in the obituary. I knew Josh at Westminster. While we lost touch after graduation, I have thought of him many times over the years and enjoy great memories. The world is a worse place without his wild heart - all my sympathy to his wife and family.
