Joshua Kurt Coy
July 10, 1978 - March 2, 2019
Our beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend Joshua Kurt Coy passed away in his home on Saturday, March 2, 2019.
He was born to Letty (Greene) and Kurt Coy on July 10, 1978 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Josh was raised in Sandy, Utah and graduated from Jordan High School. As a child, he was adventurous but accident prone and began his musical career playing competitive air guitar. He expressed a lifelong passion for music including appreciation for his dad’s oldies and was a fixture in the local SLC hardcore scene. He was in the bands Pulse, Flatline Syndicate, and most recently Man Down. His favorite band was The Beatles, which he used as strict criteria for selecting friends. Josh was also an avid fan of the Steelers, the Jazz, and the NY Yankees. He had a fantastic sense of humor and remarkable kindness for all living things. He loved his parents, his family and friends and gave of himself completely. In addition, he demonstrated his gift with animals by raising two amazing dogs, Sadie and Lucy. On a deeper note, Josh struggled with opioid addiction for many years and fought the good fight. He was active in the local recovery community and loved by many. He demonstrated optimism, gratitude, and serenity during the last 9 months of his recovery, with his sudden death coming as a shock to many. In the end, Josh lost his valiant battle to a terrible disease.
He is survived by his parents, Kurt and Letty Coy; his siblings, Casey Hughes (Amie) and Jamie Mackintosh (Chris); and his nephews and nieces, Ally, Presley, Hudson, and Maddox. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and many cousins including Bradley and Ben, who he was particularly close to. The family would like to express their tremendous gratitude for his friends in the fellowship, his boss, John Sargent who showed him much support and kindness, Turning Point Centers, Balance House, Heather Chase and all his extended family at The Haven. See you on the flip side, Chief. You filthy animal you. You will be missed.
A celebration of Josh's life will be Monday, March 11, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building. Please check back soon for tribute video slideshow.

We ask that God's angels wrap their wings around you and fly you home. May God bless you all during this very difficult time. We love you all! Frank and Michelle Jones

I have no words my friend. My heart is broken for those you have left behind. I will forever cherish the memories of you and not only hanging out but writing a good amount of lyrics and music together. You were always so positive and encouraging. You never missed a chance to tell me how amazing you thought I was at playing guitar and writing those âdirty southern riffsâ you were one of a kind my friend and I am real happy I got to spend the time and have the experiences together that we did. I love you man and Iâll see you on the other side ð

Man.... so many memories. Josh I dont think we spent a day apart from the time we met in the 3rd grade till we graduated high school, and although we only seen each other a few times since, you were always in my heart and thoughts. Your family was mine and mine yours. I am happy to know that you touched so many lives. My heart goes out to my second family: Kurt, Letty, Casey and Jaime. I miss you guys terribly and am hurting for this loss. Also to Barry... thanks for always being there for Josh when I wasn't. "Here comes the Sun" Joshua may its warmth take away your pain. Love you forever brother

My deepest condolences to the family and friends. I truly loved Josh and miss him dearly. He was a very good man who cared deeply with compassion and empathy....a straight forward, honest raw and vulnerable soul. I will cherish forever our many long talks together. A shining light then and now. Bless you all with comfort, peace and love. Love Sherry Moffat

Kurt, Letty and family, we are so very sorry to hear about the loss of Josh. He was a very special person and will be missed. We were thinking about the trip to Lehman Caves that we took with you and the many laughs that we shared by the fire. Also, the time we went to see him and Flatline Syndicate at Club DV8. To the family. I am so sorry for your loss. There are no words sometimes that can comfort those who have lost a loved one, but the Bible has given me true comfort. In 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 it says that god is a god of true comfort who comforts us in all our tribulations. We can be assured that not only does he promise a resurrection of those who have died, (Acts 24:15)but he also helps us until that time comes. 1 Peter 5:6,7, says that we can be assured that Jehovah god cares for us, and will help us have the strength to endure. Isaiah 41:10.
