Judith K. Swenson
June 11, 1950 - August 8, 2024
Judith (Judy/Jude) K. Swenson was born on June 11, 1950, to Violet J. (Cahill) Johnson and Alfred G. Swenson. She attended Rose Park Elementary and graduated from Bishop Glass Elementary. She then graduated in 1968 from St. Mary of the Wasatch High School for Girls, continuing her education at the University of Utah before getting a job as an accounting clerk/typist. Judy held this position for a short time before finding the job from which she retired—dispatcher for the Salt Lake City Fire Department—and moonlighted part-time as a Licensed Massage Therapist. In 2001, she retired with a combined time of 29 years, buying out her last year to retire with 30. She loved her time working for the Fire Department and made many long-lasting friendships, bonding over trips to the Shakespearean Festival and the Grand Canyon.
In 1979, Judy moved into her home in a cul-de-sac and was blessed to have found friends in neighbors as well. Volunteering with the Humane Society of Utah (even more friends) was very rewarding. Judy loved fostering kittens. A weekend job at Dancing Cats Feline Health Center evolved into a part-time job, lasting for close to 12 years and amounting to even more friends, including her Pilates teacher upstairs. Tai Chi at Red Lotus was a springboard to Embodiment Matters, with teachers and fellow students becoming very dear to her heart.
Best of all, she is survived by a sweet, loving family of cousins with whom she celebrated the holidays every year.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 East Spring Lane, Salt Lake City. Committal Rite will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Ave. & “T” Street, Salt Lake City.

I was SO blessed to know Judy. We did Pilates on and off for years together, and I would see her at mass at St Ambrose. She had a great love for her faith and a special priest, Father Andrew. Even her texts from when she was in the hospital were so funny and full of Judy. She is greatly missed!!❤️

Judy was a friend and co-worker for over 50 years. She was taken much too soon.

Judy was a much loved volunteer at the Humane Society of Utah. She took care of many litters of kittens for the Foster Department there and those kittens were always healthy and well socialized and so easily found loving homes. You could tell Judy put her heart and soul into caring for these little ones. Judy was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed.
