Judith Lee Catrow

June 14, 1939 - June 15, 2013

Saturday night, we lost an amazing wife, mom, grandma, nurse and friend, while Heaven gained a gem. After a 22-year long fight with cancer and the day after her birthday, Judie took her last breath. She was at home on a bed in her sunroom surrounded by family, friends and her dog Harry.

Well known for being a little spunky ray of sunshine, you could find her trying out new recipes she cut out of the newspaper, at church and prayer groups expressing her love for Christianity, in her garden full of flowering perennials, caring after the backyard birds, watching the nightly news, and Tuesday and Thursday nights watching her favorite crime solvers… but if any of you knew Judie you'd know that her favorite hobby was reading. She read the newspaper daily, loved the opinion section, and always had at least three books going at a time. She loved going to the library. She loved European history. She loved music. She loved Shakespeare and took her family to the Shakespearian festival then a camping trip every summer for many years. Never Disneyland. She was a devoted Catholic who prayed the rosary daily yet carried an open mind for all religions.

She had strong political beliefs which she walked the center quite close, she was a proud and true-blue Democrat. Judie donated often to charities. Above all Judie was most known as the tough and loving (barely) 5 ft tall emergency room nurse who worked at Holy Cross Hospital for over 40 years.

She is survived by her husband Thayer; children Paul (Christy), Thomas, John and Mary; grandchildren Jessica, Amanda and Daniel; great-grandchildren Riley and Draydon; and sister Trenna (Robert).

A very special thanks to all of her friends who were there for her when she was in need. Judie, we will always hold you dear in our hearts.

The wake and viewing will be held on Sunday, June 23rd from 6 to 8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 24th at 11:00 AM at The Cathedral of the Madeleine Catholic Church, 331 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City.

For those of you who would like to make donations in her name, one of her favorite charities was St. Labre Indian School or to any peace loving humanitarian organization.

In Loving Memory

Judy's Family, Over the past few years we have been privileged to attend some of your family celebrations at Toms catering shop. Each one is a warm reminder of what joy and love surrounded you when your family and friends were present. Your living wake a first for me is a legacy of how much joy you had when others were smiling and having fun. But I also remember the serious moments....especially a few weeks ago when I confided to you there were difficult days when I had a hard time with the death of Michael, I will never forget your surprised look as you exclaimed! Jane! with your strong faith....Why?.. it spoke volumes to me about your strong faith and my journey towards such unreserved trust in Gods love and plan for each one of us. so many lessons and examples you gave such a wide variety of people who were blest to know you. may your family be filled with peace and joy rather than sadness....and yet we all miss you so much. Our prayers will continue Judy as we grieve a loss bigger than life! Jane Starks
