June Grace Beach Galarneau
November 1, 1926 - February 2, 2014
June was born Nov. 1, 1926, the 2nd of 3 daughters, to Sybil (Thompson) & Willie Lee Beach in Dallas, Texas. She grew up going to the Church of Christ with her family, where she learned to love the Church hymns and hear her Dad sing in the choir. She loved the hymns all of her life and had a beautiful singing voice, herself. She told many heart warming stories of the times she spent with her family and had a strong love for the memories of her Dad, who worked at the Praetorian Life Insurance building in downtown Dallas, as a night watchman. She attended Sunset High School. She began her working career at the cosmetics counter at Sanger Brother Department Store where she met her husband, Leo Duane Galarneau in 1947. She traveled the country from coast to coast with her husband who built power plants. She had 4 children in 4 different states. She was divorced in 1961 and raised her 4 kids as a single mom in the 1960’s. She worked as a waitress & hostess at the Tiki Hut in SLC and the Fort Douglas Country Club throughout the 1960’s & 1970’s. She remarried her 1st husband in 1985. After his retirement in 1988, they moved around the west (Spokane, Pocatello) and finally settled in St. George, UT, where they spent the happiest times of their lives together. June was a voracious reader and explored many religions and philosophies. She loved flowers and adventures and sharing herself with her family and friends. She was an accomplished seamstress and painter. She has many hobbies from gardening to reading. In 2004 she returned to SLC to be close to her daughters. June had a gentle heart and remained a sweet person her entire life. She was a small and strong woman who survived much with grace. June was a bright light and a beautiful lady. June was a light in the life of all she knew. She loved animals and she loved life.
June is preceded in death by her loving husband Duane, her mother and father and her oldest sister, Willie Mae Barnett.
She is survived by her sister Joyce Scalf of Dallas, TX; her 4 children Diana Galarneau, Gail Galarneau both of SLC, UT, Nathaniel Galarneau (Candice) of Overland Park, KS, Michael Galarneau (Cheryl) of Billings, MT; her 2 grandsons Dene Galarneau and Matthew Morrison both of SLC, UT; her 2 great-granddaughters Kristene & Monique Galarneau of Seaside, OR.
A wake will be held from 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, February 7 at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, where complimentary valet parking will be provided on the north side of the building. Graveside service will be at noon on Saturday, February 8 at Murray City Cemetery, 5490 South Vine Street.
