June M. Adams

"Markey"

With overwhelming sadness and disbelief, we had to say goodbye to our sweetheart on the morning of Feb. 26, 2013. She declined several opportunities to relocate to heaven, choosing instead to remain in her own little heaven with her family doting over her. She finally accepted the invitation from heaven, after waging a brutal, hard fought battle with old age.

She was born on New Year's Day, 1922 to a single mother who was told upon waking, that her daughter had died, and was adopted by Charles and Emma Kammerman who believed the birth mother had died. They paid $50 for "expenses". Four years later, when her birth mother became aware of the circumstances, she made headlines with a court battle to have her daughter returned to her.

During the war, she was a "pin-up" girl, and she drove 6×6 trucks at the Kearns Arms Depot. In 1945 she married Russ Adams but they were later divorced, leaving her to focus her time and attention on her only child, Linda Jean. She went to work as a switchboard operator for Mt. Bell, and then became a secretary, often working 2 jobs to make ends meet.

She had a wicked sense of humor and a fun-loving personality. She was proud that she was able to own her own home where she could raise Linda. Animals were always a joy to her and she was happy to have many over the years. She was known for her homemade peanut butter cups that she made for special occasions for those she loved.

She could be tough as nails if necessary and would never back down if she was right. She was a fierce defender and protector for her family.

In 1989 she found her true calling in life when her first grandson, Bentley was born. She stopped working so that she could lovingly care for him while Linda worked. The two of them formed a strong, loving bond. Two years later, Quincy was born and she had the time of her life caring for them both. Trips to McDonalds play land, playing in the park, and of course, the Saturday Kids Club at Home Depot.

In later years as her health began to decline, the loving care she gave to her family came back to her as her family became her caretakers. Bentley then put his life on hold, as she had done for him, and he took the same loving sweet care of her. Her family knew of her strong will to live, and were happy to help.
She was welcomed at her passing by her baby, Susan, her brother Calt, father Charles Kammerman and her birth mother, Louise Loertscher.

Left to grieve is her daughter Linda Jean (Dan Holstad), grandsons, Bentley Jade (Missy Thompson) and Quincy Jake (Amilyn Call), her sister, Shirley Carling and her loyal companions, Petey and Diego

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, March 3rd from 6 to 8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 4th at 11:00 AM at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City.

We would like to thank Barbara Alexander for her loving help and care. Thank you to Lisa Cranney for helping to keep mom well and to Margaret (Applegate) for her loving care. Special thanks to John Hemmersmeier M.D. for his extraordinary care and friendship during this difficult time.

She loved flowers but didn't tolerate going into debt. Considering that frame of mind, if you feel inclined to offer a floral tribute, would you instead please consider a financial contribution to help offset funeral expenses.

In Loving Memory

Dear Linda and family, I was sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. My memories of her were a lovely, cheerful, caring, woman. It was always very clear to me how much you loved each other. I was touched by your tribute to her and I hope that your memories of her goodness will bring you joy and peace. Take care, Rhonda Fox Westenskow
