June Marie Ortenburger

May 27, 1918 - December 2, 2008

June Marie Ortenburger passed away peacefully in her home in Salt Lake City on December 2nd, 2008. She was 90 years old. The former June Marie Clark was born in Essexville, Michigan. She married Willard Ortenburger in 1940, and began a lifetime of travel that came with being the wife of an Air Force officer. June and Willard were happily married for 55 years, raising a family of 4 children, and living in Canada, Ohio, Virginia, California, Germany, and France.  June and Willard also lived in Iran and Saudi Arabia before retiring to Escondido, CA in 1984. After Willard’s death, she moved to Salt Lake City to be near her daughter, Joy (William) Nunn. Her other surviving children are daughters Janet (Robert) Bondi of Bend, OR, and Lynn Ortenburger of Portland, OR, and son Thomas (Susan) Ortenburger of Midland, MI.  She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn (Owen) Anderson of Bay City, MI; her 5 grandchildren; and her 2 great-grandchildren. June is remembered by her children for her patient, loving, and gentle nature — a wife and mother who seemed to take everything in her stride — and as a “trooper” for her inspiring determination to overcome the health challenges she faced in the last years of her life. Everyone who met her received the benefit of her good nature and her beautiful smiles. The passing of this remarkable woman leaves a void in the lives of all who knew her, but she leaves us with so many gifts: a wealth of wonderful memories of her love, her courage, her beauty, and her endearing sweetness. Friends may call upon the family at a wake on Saturday, December 6th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.  June will be buried with her husband at the Riverside National Cemetery in California at a later date.

In Loving Memory

Joyce, Thank you for letting us know about Mom's passing. Dad and Mom were very dear to us. We were stationed together at the Pentagon and also in Iran. There were many great dinners together. We visited them both when we moved here to California from Virginia. They both had a very fulifilling and fruitful life. We too enjoyed your Mom's smiles, no mater how bad she fellt she was always cheerful. Our heartful sympathy to you and your family. Del and Edie Knight
