Karen Rae Nielson
December 3, 1954 - September 30, 2024
On Monday September 30, 2024, Karen Rae Nielson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away after a 7-year battle with cancer. Her last days were spent surrounded by family and friends.
Born to Grant and Bonnie Rasmussen on December 3, 1954, in Salt Lake City UT. She attended South High School and graduated with a business scholarship. She married the love of her life, Craig George Nielson on November 3, 1973.
Karen had a successful career at American Express in the human resource department. She enjoyed swimming, riding bikes and spending time with her many friends. She never went without her nails being done and always had style.
Karen loved her family, especially her six grandchildren. She spent countless hours making memories with them that will be cherished forever.
She leaves behind her husband Craig; son Chad (Alesha), daughter Magun (Brandon); grandchildren Harleey, Marissa, Emerson, Tyton, Kemri and Ainslee; siblings Kevin (Dana), Keith (Marci); sister-in-law Renon and many nieces and nephews.
Karen was preceded in death by her mother Bonnie, father Grant, mother-in-law Norma, father-in-law Ned and brother Kent.
The family extends a huge thank you to those who cared and supported her during this time.
A celebration of life will be on Monday, October 7th from 6:00-8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S. 900 E. Salt Lake City UT. Guests are encouraged to park on the north side of the building. Graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 8th at 1:00 PM at the Richfield Cemetery.

Craig, Kevin, Keith and family I am so sad to hear of Karen’s passing! Always loved her smile and laugh, which she readily shared when we occasionally ran into each other after we all moved out of Glendale. I hope your memories will help bring peace - may she rest in paradise!
