Karin Crawford Howard

May 9, 1952 to August 1, 2012

Our friend Karin passed away August 1 after a six-month battle with cancer. At the end she was surrounded by many friends and family and died peacefully.  Karin was a beautiful and loving person whose presence will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched.

Karin loved to travel, especially to Zion National Park and the Oregon Coast, and enjoyed cross-country motorcycle touring.  Her love of skiing brought her to Utah from upstate New York. She was an avid fan of jazz and other styles of music, loved cats, and enjoyed gardening. She had an extraordinary flair for decoration and interior design, was an expert seamstress and quilter, and always enjoyed a good glass of wine. A person of impeccable taste, she inevitably gave the perfect gift. She will be missed for her quiet laugh, her honesty, and her sympathetic ear.

A graduate of Niskayuna High School in Schenectady, New York, she earned an Associates Degree in occupational therapy from Salt Lake Community College and performed her internship in Coronado, CA.  For nearly two decades she was beloved by her clients for the level of her personal care, her creativity and her ability to help people to reach their full potential.

Karin is survived by her father, James C. Crawford of Binghamton, NY; her ex- husband, Paul T. Howard, of Sandy, UT; her brothers, Bruce Crawford of Burlington, VT, and Brian Crawford and sister-in-law Susan Crawford, also of Binghamton, NY; her nephews Greg and Matthew Crawford, and Mathew’s wife, Heather; her best friend Lynn Meinor and her husband Bob Dixon, nieces Courtney and Adrian Meinor; and Courtney’s son Evan.  She had a large circle of remarkably close friends whose lives were bettered by knowing her. She was loved by Kathy Stark, Bonnie and Dusty Sackett, Jeff and Sharon Meinor, Ed Attard, and all her great friends at Aspen Ridge and Health South. Karin was pre-deceased by her mother Ellen Anderson Crawford and her sister Kristen Ellen Crawford.

Karin’s celebration party will be held at a private residence at 2107 E. Gyrfalcon Dr., in Sandy, on Sunday, August 5, from 5ish to 9ish. BYOB and very casual.

In lieu of flowers please consider a gift in her memory to either the American Diabetes Association or the Huntsman Cancer Hospital, where she received truly outstanding care by a dedicated and caring staff.

In Loving Memory

I worked with Karin at Health South Rehab Hospital. She was a joy! I looked forward to the fall and winter because Karin had the most beautiful sweaters. She will be missed.

Dear Howard Family, Please allow me to express my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your dear loved one Karin. Although I never had the opportunity to know her personally, I have lost a loved one to cancer and I know how it hurts. What has helped me to cope during times such as these is the loving promise from our Heavenly Father. In His word the Bible, He has promised that in the near future He will reunite us with our dead loved ones by means of a resurrection on a paradise earth that will be filled with peace, happiness, and perfect health for everyone. (Psalm 37:9-11,29; John 5:28,29; Isaiah 33:24) May this precious hope, along with loving memories of Karin, help to comfort you during this most difficult time. Rest assured that God will do all that He has promised. (Hebrews 6:18) My deepest sympathy to you.

Behold, God is my salvation; I will TRUST and NOT BE AFRAID; for the Lord Jehovah is my STRENGTH and my SONG; he also has bemoce my salvation Praise the Lord, Call upon his name, Declare his doings among the people, Make mention that his name is exalted CRY OUT AND SHOUT THOU INHABITANT OF ZION, FOR GREAT IS THE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL IN THE MIDST OF THEE. 2nd Nephi 22 I know these words abide in Mike's heart. I can hear him speaking them to us, especially now. He is great man, he lived great and died great in the eyes of the Lord. He was and is the greatest teacher I have ever known. I miss him already and cannot wait for the day soon to come when we will be reunited. Until then, I will prepare and and try to do my best to carry on the work that he started, at least until he returns and takes the reins again. I love you Mike we all do. Until we meet again, Farewell Christian Hess
